This thread is not really CA specific, yet geared toward anyone considering the CA swap or who has yet to upgrade anything except to swap in the CA.
On saturday night I spent a few hours fitting a '94 J30 vlsd. Took about 2 hours total also fixed my right rear parking brake, and adjusted them so the left side was no longer dragging. the J30 diff has a taller ratio of either 3.8 or 3.9:1 which to me is great with the hybrid t25 turbo which holds boost to the redline so its not stop pulling. First is able to go up to about 40-45mph second to around 70 thrid to 110 then fourth and fifth to whatever.
The differential helps so much its amazing, even though its a vlsd, its leaps better then the stock open diff.
Anyone who wants to shoot for power levels above what the stock mafs/turbo is capable of should really consider suspension, tires, atleast a VLSD, some good tires, and possibly some brakes, atleast some good pads(which make all the difference, try better pads before dropping $$$ in bigger brakes)before braking the 200whp mark.,
These simple upgrades cost anywhere from $600-$2000 depending on coil-overs or shock/spring combo, helical lsd, viscous lsd, clutch type (kaaz, tomei, nismo) and tires can get outrageous. Despite the cost these should be done before high HP mods, most importantly to be safe at higher levels but also to be able to experience the full potential of your HP. Slipping tires and/or bad wheel hop, along with not being able to stop, can really put a damper on ones fun!
