wondering if one of you guys could point me in the right direction. i have a simple setup. fmic, manifold, hks bov, open dp right now, ka24e maf.11psi peak. my nuts holding the turbo came loose 2 weeks ago. fixed that with the right nuts and ever since ive been smoking at idle. it smoked before but not as bad. its a blue smoke, smells like ive been racing go carts, i think it smells like gas but others say oil. it only smokes on decel and idle.

say im coming to a stop, as soon as i disengage the clutch and come to a stop, blue smoke comes out from under the car, i never see it any other time except at idle. could i just have a rich idle/low end? i dont know. local tuning shop will be running a deal at their meets, 25 bucks for two dyno pulls, printout, and AFR chart, so maybe i'll figure out whats going on then, but for now what do you guys think.

car runs pretty good. im not going to say great because ive never driven another ca. the turbo has minimal to no shaft play and hold boost without a problem. stock t25 by the way.

Same thing happened to me, I had a GT28R with only 800miles Brand new. It started to smoke only on Decel and idle. Turns out my return line got kinked and was causing my oil to back up past the seals.

Check your intake and hotpipe for oil, if theirs abnormal amount of oil than turbo has blown its seals. If everything checks out OK. Than its possible your valve stem seals are taking a dump.

well I'm just giving you 1 example of how it can happen. You could of done it from high oil pressure. What kind of turbo is it?

Just check your intake piping and hotpipe, if theirs a bit of oil than seals are blown and turbo requires rebuild or upgrade. If no oil than its possible Valve stem seals. Leakdown test can help locate the problem as well.

My turbo was actually fine during boost, no shaft play, turbo spooled normal the only problem was the coming to a stop and idle where I flooded intersections with smoke. I fixed the return line and problem went away.

this def sounds turbo related.

The turbo cam loose because you do not have a downpipe/trans mount with rubber bushing hooked up.

The ca hose is long, you probably kinked it.

But smoke from UNDER the car? not out the pipe?

If you are leaking oil, they WILL NOT let you on the dyno, just FYI.

IT definatly sounds more turbo related. Or possibly a busted oil line. I had a incident where my car would puff a little bit of smoke from the engine bay. At first I thought it was a leak from the oil return being burnt off on the turbo. Turns out it was a tiny leak from the Stock Oil line that didn't seal properly.

This is what Valve Stem Seals look like.

They cost like $16. They seal the valve from the combustion chamber, sometimes as they wear out during idle or Decel where the engine is sees its highest vacuum oil gets sucked past the Valve Stem Seals and gets burnt up causing smoke during idle and decel.

do u let the car sit for at least 30 secs eveytime bfore u turn off ur car? (turbo time)otherwise when hot oil sits in the turbo it can burn up from sitting in there and eventually gunk up and blow the turbo.

i thought you only needed to worry about that with non-water cooled turbos. hence why they make turbo timers. and i know the dyno will not let me know if im leaking oil...der. but it would tell me if i were running rich. well i checked my oil yesterday, there was a little more oil than i would have liked, just above H. i figured maybe that was my problem, came out of school today and checked it again and there was almost nothing on the dipstick. went and got a quart of oil, put it in. when i got home from school checked it again and its bone dry. i started it up let it run for about a minute, shut it off and checked it again (to see if i had any oil at all) and the dipstick had oil on it. look on the ground and theres a puddle of oil. so i guess its a combination of a couple things. im going to blame it on my oil return. the manifold i have set the turbo lower than stock so i had to modify the return tube (cut the angled part off) so its just straight and connected the hose. the hose was bent too much because i didnt cut enough of the metal tube off and it split.. readjusted the hose so the split part was out of the way and that held. after the turbo came loose i had to put that hose back on, by this time the hose was so short it was only enough to close the gap between the oil pan and the tube. iit held so i left it. i was getting irritated with it. i can get the dump tube off because i cant get to the bolts, so i can put the right hose on there. so i dont know what im going to do.

oh and for the smoke, left this morning, it smoked pretty bad until it warmed up. its been warm all day so the only time it smokes is when i boost and when i come to a stop. doesnt smoke at idle much anymore. i swear my car is possessed. its always something.

you really really really should fix that hose.

Motors dont like losing oil, like that: low oil pressure = death.

yeah i know. im just trying to figure out how to get that off. i may just take it easy and wait till i put my sr turbo on. i mean im just confused right now. sometimes it smokes sometimes it doesnt. i could pull 11psi in 5th gear and not smoke but it will other times it will. i dont know, i just cant wait to get all the kinks worked out, its been months messing with this crap. im just glad the motor runs just as good.
