ok after i wurked out the rough idling problem with the help of u guys and gals i have a new problem. i installed a cold air intake it goes from throttle body over to where the factry one was and thats wheere the maf hooks up then another pipe goes threw the inner fender where the factory box was. thats where my air filter picks up. but my problem is when i start my car whether it hot or cold outside it dont have a high idle i have to manually give it gas for a short time maybe a minute at 1500 rpms after i do that it drops down to 700-900 rpms which is low idle i have hooke dup everything that was there before except the little blk box mounted under coil i removed that when i had motor out. i have checked for vacum leaks and checked all my plugs for corrosion and to make sure they r attached good. with car running i can unplug maf sensor and it will die, i can unplug throttle pos. sensor and the idle goes up to like 2000 rpm. cant figure it out any help would be appreciated

you need to pull ecu codes for us to have an idea on what is going on.

Most likely though, you just need to reset your ECU and let it "learn" w/ the new CAI.

ok, now we're going somewhere.

Well, your water temp gauge runs off the temp sensor on the lower radiator hose (I believe). The Engine Temp sensor is connected to the coolant stream next to the bleeder hose on the intake manifold.

That is a likely culprit. On mine, it was actually the connector that was bad, and when you wiggled the connector/harness there, idle would surge up & down.

You can check to see if it does that. Also you can remove the connector clean it out, remove the sensor, clean that up, etc. You may have to replace it, but there is a testing procedure I believe - that you will have to look thru the FSM, if you don't have one, you can search for the free one on here and refer to the testing procedure in there.

Code 41 is Intake Air Temperature, which is the small resistor in your intake box before the MAF. That "should" be for diagnostics only and shouldn't affect your car's performance at all. However, you can take that out and clean up the unit and connector too.

After you do all that, reset the ECU, drive around a bit, see if the problem still persists, and pull codes again.

While you are at it, no reason not to clean up the MAF sensor & connector too. Specifics on how to clean that can be found via search.

thanks man after i checked the codes i unhooked battery for about 15 minutes and i went and drove it roughly about 6 miles but anyhow the only code i got know is #13 the 41 code i fixed i had it unhooked when i hooked up cai and i hooked it back up so the only problem i have is the #13 code

ill check the lower connector, and the upper connectors, and if not to much ill buy new temp sensor ill check that tomorrow after i get off
