AZhitman has finally let back on. Thank you. It really sucked not being able to ask some of my stupid questions on Nico.Anyway.

I'm still working on my custom under-plenum job. I don't really have much time to work on it. Here's what I've got so far.

I have gotten the plenum off. In the process, I crushed the metal tube that comes up by the IAC. That might cause a problem when I put the thing back together.

I replaced the fuel line behind the radiator filler neck. I also replaced the one the is back by the IAC. That was a real pain. Being my stupid self, I didn't releive pressure from the fuel rail before I cut the lines. So, I had a puddle of gas on the garage floor. That was very stupid of me. I used 100psi fuel line those two hoses. That is some expensive stuff $5 a foot. Good thing I only needed a foot.

I have gotten the Y shaped joint off. I am going to go to a custom hose making around here. They are really cheap, $0.50 a foot for coolant hoses.

I remember, one of you guys asked how I am going to prevent the hoses from kinking when making double bends in a short radius. Well, I figured that out. First, I just made the radius larger(more hose), that would of worked. Then, I changed those out for externally reinforced hoses. I custom made those. To reinforce them, I put a larger diameter hose over whereever the hose kink. The outer hose fits tightly around the interior hose, and that prevents it from kinking. Using this method, I am able to make some of the hoses shorter than OEM, but I don't. I make all of them about 1/2-1 inch longer, this releives a little stress.

Somebody asked the question of how am I going to make a hose larger or smaller on one end than the other. Well, I solved thet too. I use a hose that fits perfectly on the larger fitting. For the smaller end, I am using screw adjustable clamps to make the hose fit tightly.

Ok, now here comes some more stupid questions.

Can I get rid of the EGR system. I know that it is used to reduce emmisions. But, I don't care about that. And I don't have to worry about passing the sniffer either. I would think that recircullating exhaust gases into the intake would cause a lose in HP. Because, it would be forcing gases that contain very little oxygen into the cylinder. And, as you know, more oxygen creates a bigger explosion. Would the car run without the EGR? If so, would the ECU retard the engine or anything like that?

glad to see you back man. nice to see you have made some sort of progress on your project. I think that if you remove the egr system there will be some idle issues. When I removed it from a 87 pathfinder it was never the same. It didnt matter because it became a toy anyway.

Good luck with your stuff!!

You're asking for someone to advise you on tampering with an emissions device, thus violating federal law?Don't do it.

Yep, don't mess with the EGR. You'd think it'd improve perormance, but it actually doesn't.

Plus, it'll throw a Check Engine light, which means no more self-diagnostics - You'll never know if something is wrong or if it's just the EGR making the code. Plus, almost impossible to sell a car with a CEL on.

EGR is only used at steady state rpm [highway cruise] when you accelerate it is turned off.EGR is necessary to prevent knock at cruise under extreme advance used to improve cruise mpg.

Please put it back exactly as you found it! Changing anything will just cause problems.

i agree with AZhitman if you remove it and on hot days when you need to cool off the cumbusion chamber(by the way thats what the egr does with out going into detail) you will eventually put a hole in the piston. thats the worst that would happen but youll probably, from what i read redesign it and make it fly..lol but if i was you put it back the way you found it.

Not gonna sell the Q. If anything, I would pull the engine and maybe the transmission. I would put a Turbo, possibly two, on it. Then I would use this combination to make a dune/rail buggy.

Look, made another dumb comment.

I'm thinking too much.

While I have the Upper-Plenum off, I could get it chrome plated. That would be a hit at a car show.

everyone says they will never sell their car, but 99.9% of those people end up getting rid of the car in some form or another.

A chromed Plenum might look good. It would seem out of place though. I would have to chrome a few other things. Hey, maybe I could start by getting chrome hoses.

If I opened the hood, there would be a ton of crows around.

Chroming it would cost too much, as it's aluminum.

Polishing it could be done yourself for $6 wiorth of sandpaper and some Mother's polish. Of course, it'll take 3 months, but it'd look sweet.

What would it look like if I did that?

Good thinking, $6 instead of $500. I like that.

Probably won't have the Plenum back on yet in 3 months.

Actually, polishing it sounds like a better idea. I bet I could get it as smooth as glass. I'd start with 100 grit then work my way up to 1000 grit. Then to make it even smoother, I could wet sand it after that. I wonder what that would look like.

2 years worth of great articles for the obsessive bipolar hose changers/chromers among US.

Most of us have enough trouble just keeping the engine to near as designed operating condition............I've seen a few polished plenums.......I spray painted my valve covers black to reflect my personality and to cover up the oil and dirt...........the last time they were off for a reseal.

It sure won't pass a Nox emission test with no EGR.The most common failure reason we see [dirty partially pluged EGR passages]. We must get at least one per week.

Don't have emissions tests here in Florida. Us people that live in the South don't care about the enviroment.

I was thinking about polishing, chroming or spray painting the valve covers.
