I knew it wouldn't be this easy....

I tried driving it for the first time last night. In neutral, it'll rev freely like it's nothing. i hear the turbo boost and no problems. As soon as I put it in gear and drive off, it sputters and boggs and misses like crazy. It won't rev over 3000rpms. Would this be the timing? I never checked it since I've been told that it came straight out of a running motor. Why would it rev with no problems in neutral but sputter under load?

Definitely check the timing. I would replace the belt too while you are in there. 3000rpm sounds like a MAF issue, but if it revs freely while in neutral it doesnt sound like that would be it. You may want to try cleaning the MAF out a little bit with some gentle industrial cleaner or something. It could also be ignition coil or ignitor related. If theres no load on the engine (neutral) itll make a strong enough spark to rev up freely, but as soon as its under more pressure it can't keep up.

Timing was the culprit!!!

It was a ***** to remove the crank pulley but I got it done. When I opened up the upper/lower timing belt cover off, to no surprise, it was off by two to three cogs.

The car feels awesome now. Pretty incredible!!! It's my first boosted car and i'm loving every second of it! I love my car

I've been boosting all over town last night and this morning. One question though. I dunno if it's just my car or if all ca motors do this. There's absolutely nothing between 1k to 2500rpms. I could literally floor it and it'll take a while for it for to reach about 3500 rpms then it's mind boggling acceleration all the way to redline.

Is there something wrong with my car or is it something I need to get use to? I think my old ka24de motor could take this car off the line then run out of breath real soon.

Yeah. It's kinda like that without any extra mods. I try to stay in the 3000 RPM range while in traffic, so I can hit the magic number quickly (3800 RPM) with no lag. Enjoy...........

Yup, that's what I've been doing. The motor's stock everything except a big *** front mount and IC pipings. I'm sure the big front mount make the lag worse. Okay... just to make sure that it's not just me...

My friend's 2.5l altima pulled me by two car lengths when we took off from dead stop but I reeled him in quickly. I guess it's the large difference in displacement.

The difference is massive in a turbo'd/boosted car. When you hit the magic number (full boost), the car responds suddenly giving you the acceleration that you were waiting for. In a NA car, you are good off the line and it kinda tapers off in the higher RPMs (without mods).
