Well, I did a compression test on my '92 ka24de (167.832k miles with no major work as far as I know) and got:1: 170;165 2:171;169 3:166;170 4:132;140;144The factory spec is 179, correct?, and the minimum is 151 from the posts I read. Now, I have not noticed any smoking, so this leads me to believe that the problem is in the head. Is that a good guess? I plan on doing a leak-down test, but I need to get the gauge on monday. Will some place like Advanced or NAPA have one?

Edit: When my mechanic replaced my clutch I asked him about my engine noise. He said he thought it was the timing chain, but also that I may need to shim my valves (I have sat and listened to it and can't decide if I hear a rubbing or tapping noise...maybe both) Do those shims come in pre-arranged packs, or do/can I figure out what I need first and order only those. Of course, that may be moot if I need a new head to rebuild.
