Okay so, I'm super stoked to say I'm joining the G club. Thanks for having me.

I'm going to purchase my (used) G35 from a dealership here in the next couple months.

Story is: Grabbing one from a dealer because I know it's easier to get financed through and I'm having my lady co-sign with her maxed out credit score. Private sales have a much better deal with much better mileage but we've had bad luck getting loans from banks in the past with me as the main signer. Anyway we decided to do it this way so that I can start building credit!

Do you guys have any tips / info for me going into the dealership? Good Haggling methods? What to look for on the G?

ANY advice is appreciated. Thanks so much ahead of time.

EDIT***** Oh wow forgot to mention, looking at 04-06's...

Do not look so eager or happy there and be prepared to walk away if you are not comfortable with the deal.

A lot of times you are better off getting a rate secured before you go in. Join a credit union and get a preapproved rate and amount and work with that if the dealer is not as good or better.

Congrats on deciding on a 35! I am sure I will be in a 37 soon but I am waiting for the right one to come along.

Sounds like you need to work on your credit. My oldest had to clean up his before buying his truck which he did all on his own. He had to pay off a phone and some jewelery that he had stopped paying on.....He did make a deal with the collection agency for a fraction of what he owed.
I suggest cleaning up yours first as opposed to putting somebody else on the loan.
Be a man and don't drag her into your mess.....
Pretty sure that they will have to be on the insurance as well if they are on the title.....

beware that the manual G's have an oil consumption issue.
I would check carfax, check all panels cause not everything gets reported to carfax, buy southern car if possible (less rusty).
Good luck!!! And let us know how it goes!!

I just traded the one on the left in 06 G35 6 speed manual for the 2012 G37S on the right.

Only had 171796 miles on her. It will need new brakes soon.

My advice is to improve your credit score prior to purchasing a vehicle that you possibly can not afford

Thanks so much on the input guys! The only thing is, I have 0 credit. I've never built it in the past. I've always had a bank account, always had money but never applied for a credit card.

I know paying for a vehicle improves your credit so in my mind it's killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I can easily afford the payments but I have 0 credit which is why my wife offered to co-sign. I never asked, I just told her I was looking into everything.

EDIT* PS The reason I didn't get a loan from the bank before was also because I had no credit although I had been with my credit union for quite some time. I'm now an assistant manager at my job and have been there for a while.

Good to know that you haven't screwed your credit like my oldest son did!! But, he did fix it.
I would have thought a CU would be more lenient. Maybe check with another credit union?? I am a member of two. One gives is more lenient, but gives a higher rate and everybody gets the same rate regardless of their credit rating. This is where my son got his loan. The other CU gives much better rates based on credit ratings, but would not give my son a loan at all.
Check around some more. You might have to take a higher rate, but would be better on your credit if just in your name. Might also want to check some local banks as opposed to the national ones.

Awesome, I can't tell you how much I thank you for your help! :)

So a lot of the local dealers around here say they can approve me question is, is it better to go through a bank?

How big was the loan your son had? I'm looking at cars around 12-14k and I should have around 5.5-6k to put down on it. Do dealers even let you put down such a high payment on a cheaper car or do they have no choice? I figure if you get financed through them they'd be looking to have you paying as long as possible so they can make interest profits.

Thanks ahead of time!! :)

Most dealers use banks on financing used cars. I haven't dealt with any that cared how long I financed the car, they are only concerned with getting the most out of selling the car. Some banks have a minimum of how much they will finance.
My son's truck was around 12K if I remember correctly.
So, you are looking to finance about 6 to 8K on a car that's worth almost twice. I wouldn't think you would have too much problem getting that financed.
Talk to the finance person at the dealership....if you know of one that you trust.
My CU has new car rates for 2011 and newer.
Then, another set of rates for 2005 - 2010. And another set of rates for 2002 -2004.

Okay AWESOME! So my first step is tomorrow, before I call any dealerships or go to them about their financing I will get ahold of a few credit unions out here and explain to them my dilemma. Thanks a bunch again :) :)

1 more thing if you aren't too busy. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale ... 0414&Log=0 ----- What's wrong with that car? I've never seen a 2005 for 9.9k... Although it has 102k miles and has been in a sideswipe but 'm assuming it doesn't have a salvage/restored title or it wouldn't be at a dealership.

"Structural damage disclosed by seller based on results of a visual inspection"
Sounds like the owner wrecked the car and then had it fixed but it was not reported to the authorities or by the body shop....and then, had to disclose that there was an accident when it went to auction/dealership.
Says structural damage....possibly frame damage. Possibly not fixed correctly.

I would pay a little bit more and get something that wasn't involved in two wrecks.

If you do pursue this vehicle, you need to get the frame checked as well as the body to ensure that it was put back together correctly and that it is still safe to drive.
Sounds a bit shady how the accident and the fix both were not reported.
