Yesterday I changed my fuel filter (and the hoses running to/from it), put a high-strength bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the tank, and threw in $10 bucks of Shell premium gas.

Today I ran a top engine/fuel injector cleaner through the brake booster vacuum line. Wow. Lots of smoke when I revved 'er up to blow everything out at the end. Definitely needed to be done.

The car feels so much better. I hadn't been suspecting or noticing any sort of problem with the fuel system, I just wanted to clean it up for tune-up purposes, but wow. Well worth it. Before I did all this, when idling, the car would occasionally lope ever so slightly between about 500-900rpm. This has completely cleared up, throttle response seems to have improved a bit, and overall it's just swell.

I quite recommend doing this to your own car if you haven't done so recently. It'll be much happier. :)

i'm interested in doing that, it sounds like a good idea since i have a 90' and it's 12 years young. How much did it set you back when all said and done....?

Actually, only 2 bucks. :D And that was for my 2 feet of fuel line hose from AutoZone.

I work at Jiffy Lube, and my district manager hooked me up with a new fuel filter. We have a fuel injection cleaning package which includes the stuff you put in the tank, and the top engine cleaner that is ran through a vacuum line. I got those for free too by keeping an eye on what wasn't counted in inventory anymore, and asking if I could just take them.

We charge $60 for the fuel injection cleaning, and $35 for fuel filter replacement. So by taking that stuff and doing it myself at home, I guess I sort of got a $95 value for free.

Buying the cleaners and filter at a store yourself will prove much cheaper. :) Jiffy Lube is ungodly overpriced. Not to mention I wouldn't let anyone else who works there touch my car...but that's a different story.

Unfortunately I'm in South Carolina...not Cali. :( Otherwise, I'd love to help you out. Seeing that beautiful car of yours in person would be quite an honor.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions though. It's all real straightforward... I doubt you'll have any problems.

Oh they are. :D I just very much miss having a black car. My PGT was black, and I think S14s look particularly striking in black as well.
