i was reading the paper this morning, particularly an article about my hometown, new haven. apparently there have been 8 shooting related deaths in the last 48 hours. it went on to state that the fbi places new haven at #4 in the list of most dangerous cities in the country.

http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/ ... ccording-/

i still frequent new haven quite often as i have many family members who refuse to move out of that s*** hole. and most of them wonder why i'm getting a gun

I think Minneapolis MN was rated the gayest city. Suprising cuz DC was like at the bottom of the list (out of 10), and it is extra :sissies:

New Havenites should be proud. Heck, last year they were only ranked 18th in violent crime. Jumping to #4 in one year took some real effort. Who'da thunk Camdem NJ is now considered safer than New Haven.

#4, That's it? They can do better than that. Cmon New Havenites "take one for the team!"

Sure the stats that come in for New Haven put them in the top 5 of dangerous cities, but, I don't even think New Haven is the most dangerous city in CT. I am helluva lot more scared of Bridgeport or Hartford, I was up off Asylum St in Hartford today and I think that is a much much worse than anywhere in New Haven. Stats can tell you something, but not everything.

If this was an opinion poll, I'd put about 20 cities ahead of New Haven as more dangerous.

Timay, there are clearly other cities with more violent crimes reported than New Haven, but when measured as a percentage of its population, New Haven is numero 4 in the entire country this past year. Now I'm sure if Tita had actually kicked Nala in the ballz (as he promised) instead of just peeing in his dorm room this past year, Hartford might have scored a little better. :dblthumb:

How does Hartford score for sex offenders? Nala is like the Lebron James of leghumpers.

i dont even go downtown drinking / fancyfoodeating anymore . . . place used to be nice. so many intimidating beggers (the ones that get in your face and dont leave you alone until you walk far enough or give them something) and the 'bad' sections have just straight bled over into the good portions. the place is a s*** hole now.

my buddy on new haven PD said everyones first day on the job gets some sort of gunshot call, its relentless there now. they are thinking of setting up cameras, but tbh, those would just get shot up too, complete waste of tax payers dollars.

however... hiring a couple more PD to do FOOT PATROLS through the city i think would decrease crime a bit . . . the police inforcement has become so impersonal and detached from the population that its too easy for crime to run rampant. what kind of police presence does a passing cruiser ever 4 hours provide? none.

imo, blamed entirely on the stupid govt officials making stupid decisions because of money. (of course its the criminals fault directly, i'm talking about blame on higher govt scale)

EDIT: LOL i got ranting and forgot why i quoted timay. i wanted to ask when the last time you visited NH was? it has gotten much, much worse in the last 6-8 months. i live right outside of bridgeport, and tbh, its nicer than NH in general now :gotme i def feel safer on the streets of bridgeport than NH

i'm not entirely uncomfortable in new haven, being that i grew up there and still frequent the dump quite often, but i still tend to be very aware of whatever environment i'm in when i'm there.

I know NJ is crazy about gun ownership. What are CT, NH, and MA like? Kinda off topic, but did you guys see the thing about the guy in Phili that had a conceal/carry permit and was wearing his gun on his hip? He got messed with by the cops and got the whole thing recorded.

I'm in different parts of New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford atleast once a week, in the worst parts, working in factories and the like. I'd rank from worst to not as bad like this: Hartford, Bridgeport, then New Haven...now don't get me wrong, these places are all pretty much on the same scale of "bad", but I feel more "safe" in any part of new haven. Not by much though.

Funny you bring up things being worse in the last 6-8 months, I live in West Haven, and it has gotten noticeably bad in that time period.

As for the Gilmore Girls...lol, you have to go to Greenwich, Darien, Ridgefield, New Canaan area, basically most of Fairfield county (except, Stratford, Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford) to find that kind of stuff.

Pistol wavin' New Haven!

I work in Hartford. Two-ish? weeks ago, I saw someone get stabbed in the neck in our parking lot.

*shrug*

I worked on Homestead Ave in Hartford last week, beautiful area...really beautiful.

Sarcasm of course. Surprised nala hasn't wandered into any of those hoods yet, and tried to plow the street with his homemade snow plow.

I lived in Middletown for two and a half years, and worked on Asylum St. in Hartford/Eugene O'Neill Drive in New London. Hartford was fine. Quite nice, as long as I drove right to work, didn't go wandering at lunch, and drove right home. New London was kind of a joke, but same deal (not quite as bad).

I now live in New Haven (but not downtown) and work at Yale. I get the emails about the serial rapist (at Christmastime), the assaults (3x per week?), and all the shootings and stabbings. It was interesting to me that it's the 4th most dangerous city, but I guess the YPD and the NHPD are patrolling a lot more, and a lot more is being reported than it used to be.
