After Seven years and many hours under, over, in, and waiting for the next thing to go wrong, then buy part$ for and fix... Its finally starting to burn me out. I like working on stuff so its not that. I know on a per dollar basis I'm ahead and it's a great car. I guess I'm just burnt. At $1571.00 per year (not incl. fluids or $ of my time or interest) I've gotten a real deal. Maybe a 2000 - 2001 E55 or A8 then a '98 - 2k Ultra for winter... I don't know.. I'm just burnt on my Q.

A8 is an awesome choice, or wait for the S8 to come out, also consider Audi RS6, or the new V-10 M5

Yes I meant S8 - the new ones are really ugly. I saw a thread somewhere the A8 with aftermarket upgrades and a SC is the same and overall cheaper, but f a s t e r.

If only Audi could design gear cases that remained sealed. A mechanics retirement security on wheels. Go read the A8 forums before you go off the deep end.

Just suggested cars all over 75k in price....from a 90 Q to a V10 M5??????? I do not think I can every bring myself to cutting lose with that kind of jack for a new car. The most I ever spent was still 24k for my 97 in 2000....not sure if could see myself spending more than 35k or so for a new ride.

I agree with Brian. Be sure to look before you leap for Audi. MB and BMW of course have excellent reputations, but in the last 5-6 years electrical problems have been a major issue -- and people thought Lucas was bad...

squeefoo - if that's getting you down I wouldn't recommend going German. What you've been through will be more of the same, but with added electrical gremlins. German cars are great when it comes to style and feel. I also own a 92 400e for a couple of years it really kicked me in the balls on a regular basis. Things are EXPENSIVE to fix!

Sounds like a real nice 1990 Q45 Squeefoo! If the body is rust free, it would be difficult to let go if I owned it.

I've seen '00 - '01 Mercedes E55 for $40k at the dealer, looks like a pretty nice price drop already to me. I've seen '99 - '01 Audi S8 between $20k - $40k... another nice drop. A8 between $15k - $25k, and all I'm sure with further to go. I'm not dumping it (Q45) off, just tired of it, I'd never get anything for it anyway; and I don't waste money on depreciation, the car then punishes me because of it ( or actually previous owners do w/laissez faire maintenance ).

Good points, I was thinking new since he mentioned a V10 M5 that isn't even shipping yet, that 01 E55 for 40k would be tempting, can you get a warranty to 100K? I wonder, my problem is I keep cars forever so I always think in terms of forever and what it will be like in 20 years :) My 84' 300ZX that I bought brand new is testament, i have all the cars I have ever owned except my 1977 Celica Liftback GT that I sold in 84 to buy the Z.

Is newer Infiniti out of the question?

Slightly used Q45? M45? FX35/45?

They're all on my short list for the 05/06 buying season :D.

I got my new M45 last August for $34.6k (sales tax by California and a 100k extended warranty by Infiniti made it total to $40k.) Is that close enough for you? :D

I've only seen 2 '01+ Q45 around: not to denigrate them at all, but to to see them on the road is one thing, VS. in the showroom is another. Not to sound as the arbiter of taste or function, I just haven't seen enough of them to include those in my sample as yet (nor the paper); there are too many Cretins about to understand and/or appreciate such detail (therefore no surplus market). Once again this is Wisconsin. "We" have voted in how many "SOCIALISTS" (I can list them) I'm so sorry "progressives", that any attempt at "wealth" is akin to EVIL. I'm not sure how many of you out there understand the smothering of freewill and capitalistic enterprise there really is up/out here, it still amazes me. The "rich" are truly punished, there is no regard for effort nor for achievement, achievement is a bad thing. Just as when Black kids complain that when they try to have good grades, their classmates accuse them of trying to be "White"; therefore no progress in their education. So; also nobody buying any nice cars up here, and therefore none for sale, or one is "shunned" for daring to be ELITE (class baiting). This State is really bad- everyone should be glad to be where they are. I know this forum is not for political speech, however constraints are what they are and this is how they are here. I still can't believe the shallowness of the general populace unfortunately I/my daughter deal with them everyday. Try to explain that to an 11 Y/o who is picked on for being smart/cute (or rather "shunned" in her peer group), and can't help it (either/or); I know some of you can. Thats why only those who have thick skin dare to drive a nice car in "The Peoples Republic Of Wisconsin" admidst the glares from those who bathe in discontent.

Thats interesting squee... I have friends in wisconsin (or rather my parents do) and both their kids are in accelerated learning programs. She's 14 and going to be a junior in highschool.. Someone my brothers age in a grade less than me, pretty impressive if you ask me.....

They drive nicer cars (not ultra bling or fancy) but not beaters, and I see my fare share of good cars up there... Then again I dont live up there.....

I wouldnt rule out a Y33.. Theres one in indy right now, a 99 with less than 100k, for 9000..... I am glued to that, black on black, the G50 may go, but im not sure.....

No I'm not insane or dilusional, I hear it all the time. Mine was a generalization of the attitude, I've had things said to my face about my Q car like: "you can afford it, look at your car". Which we all know is a laugh. No more politics.I like fast lux cars not so sure about Y33 -I drove one -lots slower than my '90 -Auroras are cheaper and about the same. Maybe there was something wrong with it.

squeefoo - I was behind a black AE Y33 on my way to work this morning and must say it's given me a good reason to add them to my list (see above). In my case going with an AE Y33 would allow for some "mods" that the budget wouldn't support on the other cars.

FWIW, the overall performance difference - stock to stock isn't huge, but I think it's made more noticeable by the increased comfort of the seats, as the 90-93 are notorious for low(er) comfort, higher emphasis on perfromance, the window glass was even thinner.

Hope you are happy with whatever you egt.

I would definately reccomend a lightly used (or even new) Y34 M45. I've seen loaded '03s with 10K at $29995...

Squee-

man, i'm in the same exact quandry- tired of the 90Q (paid 33k cash in Aug 1990) but not being swept off my feet by anything.

Placed my name on the list with my bmw dealer for the new M5.(he thought they would be going at $20k over MSRP) At that price it just won't fly.

Nothing else does it for me.. CLK55 AMG maybe, but it's a bit small. (Tires and brakes seem small too.)

Still looking...

Ard

PS It's not wisc...morons all over the place.. :)

Thanks to inflation and marketing, car companies are cutting costs and cutting quality to offer you deals like "V8 for $35,000!"Meanwhile, interiors are cheap, tires are skimpy, and electronics are buggy.

I think you really have to spend at least $70k to get anything as good as the original Q. (Okay, the current M45 is equally quick, comfy, and responsive).

Ahhhh,I see your problem, there's no JWT ECU/TCU Combo listed in your mods. That will cure the illness REAL QUICK.I've got a 90 with JWT and a 91 standard, there is just no comparison as to driving fun. The JWT setup makes ALLLLL the difference. . .

Just look at it as a couple of car payments for brand new experiance.
