I am currently searching for a set of stainless steel brake lines when I upgrade my brake system to the sport Akebono caliper system. I was wondering what everyone one here has upgraded to. The only set I can find so far that works is Goodridge stainless steel brake lines for the Y51 M37/M56/M35h

Stoptech has some too. TunerzStore.com sells em and they'd probably be my choice.

I upgraded my breaks, but didn't upgrade the break lines. Not sure how much of a difference it makes.

TunerzStore seems to be the only vendor that lists the brake lines the G37 as being compatible to the Y51. Other vendors like Rockauto, Autoanything, ConceptZPerformance, and etc don't show the Stoptech lines as an options but only Goodridge stainless steel.

Can anyone confirm that the StopTech brake line for the Infiniti G37 fits the Y51 platform?

Its supposed to give the brake pedal a solid feel to it. Did you at least replace the banjo bolts ?

I contacted Stoptech directly about stainless steel brake lines for the Akebono equipped M37/M56 and this was their response:
Sorry Michael, but at this time we do not offer a stainless line upgrade for your vehicle.

Let us know if you have any questions

Braided stainless lines don't compress outward like a rubber line would. When you pump the breaks, oem lines can give a little where braided stay the same diameter.

The SS lines from the G37 sedan and coupe will work on the Y51. The design--brake wise--is the same as ours. Hence why we can upgrade to the Akebono BBK without any modifications to the calipers.

Hi Rob I had the same theory as well but I just want confirmation. I think someone mentioned on FB that the SS brake lines provided in a kit was too short.

I have heard that upgrading to braided lines and nothing else is a great improvement in feedback from the brake pedal. Anyone done such a thing?

Brake lines do help. When I put the Akebono sport brakes on my M45/Y34 the pedal feel had vastly improved.

Do you mean changing to braided hoses, or do you mean replacing the hard lines with stailess steel tubing?

Yes, perhaps I can see the point in fancy braided hoses, maybe, to prevent hydraulic pressure loss from swollen rubber hoses. But I think there's such a small (almost insignificant) difference in swelling between new factory hoses and fancy aftermarket hoses. If your hoses do expand under pressure, then you will lose some braking pressure, and I'd say you NEED new hoses ASAP. The stainless braids do look pretty.

OTOH, there's absolutely no benefit to replacing the hard lines unless they're corroded. And for those, I bought a whole roll of tubing and flared the ends myself, to replace all hoses & hard lines on my old truck. I used NiCopp tubing.

It is the hoses, not the hard lines that are attached to the underbody of the car.

From what I can tell, all the M's that came from the assembly line with the Akebono calipers do not use banjo bolts at all. Stay tuned!

Just in case anyone cares...

REPLACEMENT BANJO BOLTS:

-If your car came non-Akebono calipers equipped from the factory and you want to upgrade to the Akebono calipers, you can retain your stock rubber brake lines and get (4) banjo bolts that will bolt right up to the Akebono calipers. This is the easiest route to go since you don't need to unbolt your stock lines. You just simply swap out the old banjo bolts (will not work Akebono calipers) with the replacement ones that are the proper length to work with the Akebono calipers. Shoutout to Nick from conceptzperformance.com for getting the banjo bolts here in time.

STOPTECH STAINLESS STEEL LINES:

-StopTech stainless steel brake lines is another option for everyone that wants to upgrade their brake lines. I can confirm that the rear lines will work without any issues. As for the front StopTech lines you may need to get creative on routing the brake lines since its a bit shorter than the stock lines but i think there is enough length to make it work. I'm on the fence about buying a set and mounting them, until then I can't confirm the front lines for sure because this set was intended for the G37S. Michael from TunerzStore says they will fit since they sell this kit to their M37 and M56 customers. This kit will include all the lines and hardware needed to swap out the oem brake lines set.

Front Centric # 95042012
Rear Centric # 95042503

GOODRIDGE BRAKE LINES:

Part #: 22039

This is the only kit on the market that is made to fit the Y51. This upgrade kit is perfect for anyone that has a factory equipped Akebono calipers. This kit will upgrade their all their rubber hoses to stainless steel but it does not include the brake tubes that completes the connection from the brake lines to the Akebono caliper. This is a huge issue for anyone like myself that did not come with the factory equipped Akebono calipers. I'm not sure why Goodridge doesn't include everything that is needed, right now I am in the debating if I should pay an extra $70+ for oem brake tubes to get this kit to work with my car. Again if your car came with the Akebono calipers from the factory it will already have the brake tubes needed to make this Goodridge kit to work.

Thanks! Well I'm glad I did this project, I supoose I could have done a write up but it's so similar to the G37 and 370z brake swap. Only issue was regarding the brake lines. Hope my previous posts makes sense

Very nice! The green looks great against the white. How is the Akebono applied? Decal, paint, powered coated?

Thanks! it's a decal you can buy online. I'll post a link when I'm in the office tomorrow. I can't remember the link off the top of my head at the moment
