I did a search on this forum, so lets get that out of the way, and came up with nothing. I have a 2004 M45. Currently the car has all the plagues of this model. Fuel gauge not working, multiple lights lit on dash, suspension falling apart, CD player not operating and more more. My questions are:

1. The CD player will take CD's but the CD button doesnt work. Simply fix or major?

2. While trying to chase down one of the many rattle noises with this car I found a DVD ROM in the trunk under the package tray. Whats this for? My car doesn't have Navi.

Thankfully I didn't pay much for my Y34. Just wanna get these issues taken care of. Thanks guys

Also what coilovers will fit the Y34? Will Q45 or newer M coilovers work???

I don't know much about the Y34...hopefully someone with one will chime in soon. I know we have a few members here who have them. I'm going to rename your thread to be more descriptive.

Do you also have an ipod/iphone connector in the center console? it will appear as a flat black plug that fits some sort of device. If it was added, the addition renders the CD player inop but the player will accept CDs. The CD function button will also not light up.

The DVD ROM is for Nav. You'd have NAV with the DVD ROM box only.
You do not have a MAP or Route button on your controls?

Fuel gauge issue is a recall fix. Take it to the dealer for the fix.

Double E, I don't have a NAV button on my dash. But I do have the DVD ROM in the trunk. As for the CD player I did notice what looks like a wire coming up through the cup holder but the end is gone. I'll check that out. THANKS!! I'll take it to a dealer as soon as I can. Nearest one is 80 miles away. Thanks again.

I think either your center interface was replaced (the joy stick tends to break for some) or the PO added the ROM device it thinking they'd get a DVD to play on the screen (it won't).
Does the ROM unit power up & accept discs?

Does the owner's manual include the documentation for the NAV system and do you by chance have the original window sticker?

The rom turns on and accepts discs. Good chance the center interface has been changed. Unfortunalty I don't have an owners manual or window sticker.

my Y34 doesn't have navi either, but my guess is that the PO added an aftermarket DVD player. What is the brand name on it? Maybe this was done to replace the sometimes-faulty CD changers. Do you see any other signs of aftermarket work like loose trim around the center console or maybe the headrests had screens? What happens when you push the tape or satellite buttons?

Also, even without the window sticker, you could reach out to a dealership with your VIN and they can tell you what options it had new.

Says DVD ROM Navagstion System on it. Wiring and trim all look untouched. Headrest are stock. Tape say No Cassette and Sat does the same. CD button does nothing. When I'm able to schedule the cluster recall I'll see if they can give me a build sheet and history on it.

Also does anyone know if Q45's steering rack will fit the Y34?

These links say not quite:
03 Q: http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/2003-In ... -64420.htm
03 M: http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/2003-In ... -62375.htm
However, when looking on ebay some time back, some sellers said the rack would work for either car

Sorry man, I meant the rack and pinion. My pump is new and has fluid. But lost power steering few days ago. :tisk:

I don't know how common the issue was, but when shopping for my cars back in the day, I noticed a rather large number of sellers of q45s all the way from 97 and this time period of the M45s had to replace their steering rack assemblies. Might be time for you to send one to the rebuilders

You should have a MAP button on the dash if you have NAVI. If not, no NAVI.

Also, go to the INFINITI dealer to fix the Fuel Gauge issue for FREE!!! Take advantage of Nissan owning up to this FREE RECALL. It will never happen again for the Y34!!

X2 on taking advantage of the recall.

Main problems on these cars are oil consumption and loss of power due to failing cam/crank position sensors. Look into installing a oil catch can in line with the PCV valve. Keep an eye on the oil level, and the car should last you quite a long time. Also, buying used parts can still set you back quite a bit of cash, even salvage parts on ebay still go for a pretty penny. The OEM in dash cannot be replaced with an aftermarket head unit, there is not an adapter available on the market. Most people just add one where the cassette player is and splice into the stock wiring for the speakers.

As far as suspension, there are a couple companies that offer coilovers and air bags. Air bags are obviously a lot more expensive and I believe both require some custom fab work for fitment. For the fronts, you need to cut the shock tube and weld in the new one, or buy from a company that offers the entire shock-hub assembly. For the cheapest way to go lower, you can get lowering springs, but obviously ride quality will suffer. Just do some searching, there are a bunch of threads about suspension setups.
