Hey guys, just curious, is the 97/98 trunk with the larger tails built into the trunk lid a direct swap for the 99/2000 trunk with the small reverse lights?

Thanks for the help.

Probably a different controller. Also the later ones were self closing, so perhaps the torque springs are different.

Ahh the self closing is probably going to be the most trouble some.

I'll give it a shot if I can track down a cheap trunk to work with and I'll bump back in case anyone cares lol

i didn't even know that it was self closing. Do you think it will be a hard diy to do that for 98models?

The trunk is a direct swap. Did this a couple months ago. Here are the only real issues, all are easily handles:

1. You have to run 4 new wires is you want the inner marker bulbs to light up. They are the upper and lower bulbs on the larger tail light assembly from the 97-98.
2. Make sure you get the lock rod from the 97-98 trunk. The 99-01 rod is too short to work with the location of the key hole on the 97-98 lid.
3. You will also have to swap to the tension rods from the 97-98 trunk arms. The 97-98 lid is a bit heavier than the 99-01. They 99-01 rods will hold the trunk lid open, but when you use the remote trunk opening, they hardly lift the trunk lid.

Everything else bolts up. From the lock, to the electric release, to the wiring harness.

If you go through with the swap, feel free to hit me up with questions.

Ok, so I can't PM on this hurtin forum I guess.

Iamsv, can we exchange emails some how? I have a couple questions for you. However I doubt you'll ever get this message since this thread is old as hell.
