I have not been driving the Q very much nowadays. Today I got in it, warmed it up for say 2 mins(tsk, tsk, I know. I was in a hurry) and started driving. It seemed the 2nd to 3rd gear shift was big time retarding the engine and then the gear was shifting. I couldn't tell if there was any slippage but the shifting was very noticable. When the transmission warmed up things were fine again.

My question is can this be happening due to the engine retarding during the shifting? Is it more noticable when the fluid is not warm enough? Only 2nd to 3rd was showing this symptom.

Do you guys see this happening in your vehicle? My car had its transmission fluid replaced at dealer at 104K (02/06) and it now has 108K. transmission fluid does look cherry red on white paper towel test.

Comments?? BTW, temperature in MN nowadays range say from 36-45 degrees.

2-3 shift is the 'slowest' shift in the re4r03a due to two shifts happening near simultaneously. the 2-3 is a combination of the high clutch engaging, and the intermediate band releasing.

also, you are correct, the ecu does retard the timing (more when cold).

sounds like it is doing about what we expect given the conditions you describe.

I had to think for a minute, but yes, I can identify with that slow shift you're talking about. It's not anything terribly dramatic, but I can remember a slight delay - maybe takes twice as long as usual - just enough to find myself leaning into the anticipated shift that hasn't happened yet - then it shifts.

I don't drive mine around town much in the winter, and when I do, I rarely let it warm up completely.

Unless yours is somethning truly dramatic, I'd say it's "normal".

Mine does the same exact thing, and yes, more noticeably when cold.

Ok, that gives me some relief. I took it out to drive around a bit today. Did the same thing for first 5 mins and then it was back to normal. This time I did warm it up enough.

Thanks for the inputs guys. Appreciate it. Happy winter driving.
