The local Goodyear place has replacement strut cartridges for about $50 a piece versus $150 at the dealer. Anybody replaced their Y33 struts with aftermarket?

Yep, Falk has KYB SR Specials, and others keep threatening to slap on JIC coil overs.

What about the rear dampers? Are they all generic or calibrated for the FY33?

I think they said "moog/muug" This was the better brand as compared to a slightly cheaper version they carried.

I'm surprised they had anything, my guess is these are crap, you will not find any shocks for the rear other than stock. I guess McPherson struts are McPherson struts.

I just dropped a BOATLOAD of money for SR Specials from KYB. These are NOT available in the US, I got help from OneTonGarage on this, he had to order them from Japan. Accordign to those that have installed them it is worth the extra money.

Hit him up, he's got one extra pair but they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you're not willing to do the really expensive high performance ones, I'd get stockers mail order from everythinginfiniti.com.

Just curious Jeff, what did you pay? I was going to do them for $800 but everyone seemed like that was too high. I know this is too late for you, but since I've sold around 12 sets of Teins so far and have 7 more sets paid for, I am working on someone that brings containers over so that I can put my stuff on his container and finally get the KYB's for a reasonable price, ie: under $650.

650 on the dot... although I was debating on how much I'd want to sell sets in the future... was thinking more like around 670-680 or so. But I'll have to think more about that later since it's not top priority right now (not too many Y33 people seriously interested yet still). The extra set actually got snatched up within a day or two after you came by Jeff! Hmmmm, ok maybe there is a little demand out there...

Well, if you "think" about it, I've sold a dozen sets of TEIN springs, and have 7 more on the way, so that's almost 20. Not exactly Honda Civic numbers, but still a decent number of Y33's. Kinda funny actually, there are probably less than 20 modded Y33 Q45's in the whole country. I think $650 is very fair, for the quality of product and how difficult they are to get.

I thought it was very fair especially when another vendor wanted 890 before shipping and tax and said 3 months for arrival.

i wasn't going to say the price Van, you dropped it I didn't cause I promised not to spill. It was alot compared to sets of struts/shocks I have bought in the past for other Nissans, but stockers were about 500 delivered so I hope that it will be well worth it.

It is funny that there were even any struts carts that were going to fit the Y33 from anyplace that my mechanic could find. I would again suggest skipping those.

Van or Kevin, just wondering how long would the kyb's take to get here?

I paid for them in late feb and got them in early may, I think that is about what you'll have to wait.

If you're a performance-minded person, you should talk to these guys and get a set. If you're an easy rider and don't drive "spirited" than just order a set of OEM's from Scotsdale Infiniti (it will be way cheaper than local).

Yeah i'm more so the performance-minded person , like Falk I like driving my Q at high speeds, it's wrong but it feels so right But than again, I did just change my shocks in Nov. and my struts in Feb. So I think most likely I'll wait. I was thinking of JIC coilovers but have heard too much 50/50 arguments. I believe Dorimon is waiting on his to come in, i'll wait and see how he likes them first.

If you just put in fresh ones I'd wait too, these are EXPENSIVE compared to anything else out there. I wonder what Bilstein's run for a 911? Wonder if they are paying $650, this is by far the most I have ever paid for KYB's but I have to say these look MEAN, not that the looks of shocks mean a darn thing.

In any case the Tein springs and KYB shocks go in Tuesday/Wed of next week, I'll post some before and afer pics, also driving down to LA with old stuff and driving back to SF with new some good driving impressions will be included.

Turns out that the computer lists them but that they (aftermarket struts) don't actually exist.

20? I think that's the undershot of the decade.

I don't know, guess what you define as "modded" I saw one in 2002, a guy found lowering springs "from Japan" of course the Tein's but this was long before I found this board. If you count aftermarket suspension the number isn't too high given what a PITA it is to get those parts.
