Starter replacement in the VH41...how bad is it really?
Its getting pretty bad. Regularly will take 10+ turns of the key before the starter will crank over. I've had a new starter in the box for 3 years, was hoping it would never come down to it. I know the steering rack has to come out, but what else?
This design flaw has seemingly been the nail in the coffin for plenty of these cars. Don't want mine to go that way...it's such a great car otherwise.

Tbh, I’ve done it on my Maxima easily…. But for the 3 times (yes sadly lol.) my starter went out, I took it to a shop. That’s the best way, because they are better equipped to deal with the engine from beneath. Same with my a/c compressor: just can’t be bothered with the design lol.

However, once I got my fuel regulator fixed…I didn’t go thru anymore starters. Definitely fix the starter before the ignition switch wears out. Mine combined with the 2 new fuel regulator: when the engine is warmed up, it doesn’t even spin the starter, it just starts soon as I turn the key. On cold starts it does a little 2 second crank.

However each time I’ve taken it to the shop it want particular difficulty for them to do. Just may need an alignment afterwards. But the last time, they just marked it and didn’t need to
