Is it bad for the transmission when you shift from drive to park (vice versa) when the car is parked on a upward-downward slope ?

I notice a thick clunk when shifting from park to drive and vice versa.

It shifts fine when on a level ground.

is this OK ? I would think that it would be bad for the transmission when done a lot.

Usually when parking on a slope or even on flat ground, I put my car in neutral, and then engage the parking break... slowly let off the brake to make sure that the parking brake has grabbed, and has stopped the car, and then put it into park. That way there is no stress on the transmission. And when I put it into gear and then remove the parking brake when ready to go…

Depends on how much you like your pawl.

First we lose the ability to drive a manual, next we lose the ability to use the emergency brake.

I always use my parking brake on the slightest of inclines, Q doesn't really have an e-brake. Also I put my foot firmly on the brakes before I even think about moving the shifter.

Yep, this is a good habit to develop - On some vehicles, parking on a steep incline will make it almost impossible to shift into any gear, if you didn't originally let the vehicle's weight settle back on the parking brake before shifting into Park.
