Y33 rear tower bar "adjustment"?

What's the deal on the rear tower bar?

Although the bar has a length adjustment nut in the center (and elongated mounting holes at both ends), the FSM says NOTHING about adjusting it (other than a precaution about not removing it while the vehicle is jacked up with the wheels on).

Why so many "adjustments" on a part that apparently is just a bolt-on-and-forget-it item?
