Yesterday as I was driving home my brake and battery lights turned on in my 2000 Y33. I shrugged it off and the next morning I went to drive to school, the lights remained on. As I drove further, every light turned on, TCS, ABS, Etc. Then my CD player was cutting off and the lights inside got extremely dim. I turned the CD player, Heat, and headlights off so I could get power again to keep driving. Right when I was going to the parking lot, all the lights turned on again, now the Air Bag light was flashing off and on. I parked the car and when I took the key out, the seats and the steering wheel did not move back to their respectable initial positions.

I'm thinking its an Alternator problem, am I correct? I thought it might be the battery, but why did the brake light come on as well. I found an S13 with the same problem in the forums so I'm wondering if this also applies to my Y33.

Thanks in advance

I bet that it is the alternator. I had similar symptoms (light diming) when my OEM alternator went out on me on the darn interstate! Imagine that!

So my car isn't really starting right now, and its parked in my school parking lot.

Is it possible to turn on with the aid of a jumpstart so then I can take it to a mechanic?

Of course, a bad battery connection will show the same symptoms ...

But yeah, you have amperage/voltage problems - probably alternator.

And yes, no particular harm in jumping it, as long as you do it right.

You can try jumping it after you leave the jumper cables attached to the other car with the engine running for 20 min or so. The other car's charging system should charge your battery to some degree allowing you to drive it a short distance. The alternative is to take your battery out and charge it fully on a charger then put it back in. Again good for a short distance..... That's why God invented AAA.

I've jumped my 96 Q45 with no particular precautions - just connect it up right. I let it charge for a couple minutes and tried to fire it up. If it needed more power, I waited longer and tried again. No big deal. If the cables and battery terminals are clean and tight, it should draw enough charge off the other car's battery/alternator to turn the starter normally for several seconds.

But yeah, if your alternator isn't charging and your battery is dead, you won't get very far off a jump. You want a good charge in that battery before you head out on the road again.

Luckily West Houston Infiniti is like 5 minutes from my school!

Thanks
