One of the few things that bothers me about my Q is the tendency for the fuel filler nozzle to drop out of the filler neck, while I'm pumping gas. I usually set the pump nozzle for auto-stop, while I'm checking under the hood. The nozzle has never fallen completely out while the pump was running, but several times, it's come too damned close for my comfort!

Anyone else had similar (or even worse) experiences?

On my G50 I always worry about that because it looks like it is only going a couple inches down at best and is hanging WAY out... I can't say that it has ever almost fallen out, but it sure is scary the way it fits in there!

You can set the pump to auto stop in Texas?? It's all auto here, and I've never had a problem with it.

Yep, it's the latest fad that's sweeping the state - And just last year, we also got this new-fangled invention called "indoor plumbing"...

For some strange reason I was thinking about this a while ago while I was getting gas for the Q. I suspect the difference in experiences has to do with the type of gas nozzle used in the area. In some areas I notice these types

While in SC we have ones that look like this, but usually with a rubber shield at the top edge of the spout (think umbrella, not a boot).

I suspect we either don't have vapor recovery requirements here, unlike other states... luckily we don't have smog testing here yet either.

We have both types you posted, but the second is like you said, with the rubber umbrella at the top of the spout.

Ya sometimes on my Q she likes to set off the auto stop early if i dont hold the pump thingy up in the air a little bit, its almost like its fallin out if i dont hold it up tho, but it still sets off the auto stop before the tank is full tho

Global irresponsibility FTL

It's bad enough that I drive a car which I get ~12 mpg, I don't intend to dump unfiltered exhaust straight into the atmosphere on top of that. I personally hope there's still a planet for my son to live in when he's older.

My car pollutes a lot... but, I just eat a lot of beef...so, I'm doing my part to save the planet by killing off the cow exhaust as quickly as possible.

We've had the vapor recovery nozzle in MO for over a decade. They don't make a significant difference when it comes to air pollution, but they do make fueling a somewhat less pungent experience. I dont know if they prevent spills.
