For the F50, 2005 and later (and even 2003 and 2004) seem to be good years. But we have had a few members with radio or navigation failures and that gets expensive very quickly.

Is your 1997 a money pit? How much have you had to spend beyond the NICO normal maintenance schedule? 1997 and 1998 are kind of odd years, and significant improvements were made on the later 1999 and on cars.

Me, I much prefer VLSD.

The car has NOT been a money pit, but the necessary high-maintenance repairs are currently being ignored. It would cost over $1500 to have everything fixed and the car brought back to life, which my family has deemed unecessary. We're essentially waiting for it to break down entirely and not look for a replacement because we do fine with 2 cars; we dont need a third one anymore because my brother moved out.

Just to detail what has to be done to the car in the near future as well as maintenance that should have been done which has just been neglected

Knock sensors needed to be replaced
Water pump needs to be replaced
Timing chain needs to be replaced

Suspension started making horrible noises last week
Transmission has been breaking down for nearly a year now

What advantages does a VLSD give over the regular LSD in the F50?

What makes you think the timing chain needs to be replaced?

I was told these things have to be replaced every 160k miles and my car has 190k already..?

Is this :bs: ?

Timing chains are pretty much a "life of car" item, unless previous owners have neglected maintenance.

It's not to say there haven't been issues with timing chains "ever" in the auto industry, but I'd say that's BS, unless they tell you they hear "chain rattle".

1.) Knock sensors needed to be replaced
2.) Water pump needs to be replaced
3.) Timing chain needs to be replaced
4.) Suspension started making horrible noises last week
5.) Transmission has been breaking down for nearly a year now
6.) What advantages does a VLSD give over the regular LSD in the F50?
1.) Standard with most cars every 150K or so. Overheat incidents do not help.

2.) Easy.

3.) Why? Unless the tensioner has failed, which is difficult to diagnose from the exterior of the engine.

4.) I'd say a little neglected maintenance here. All rubber wears out on any car.

5.) How was it maintained, or was it just run to death? Auxiliary ATF cooler installed?

6.) Traction and acceleration, especially out of corners at 4/5ths.

Sounds like your FGY33 is just from neglect and deferred maintenance. Hope the F50 is being treated a little better.

Ever since it was involved in a pretty bad crash, we haven't given it much attention at all. That crash was the primary reason why we got the F50, and yes, it is being pampered.
