I am in the process of upgrading the pathetic, after-market, "17/7.5" Quantum Tek S-17 wheels that KingKarl came shod with. After reading the great info here, I know that the wheel must be forged and I am convinced that it is critical for me to keep the wheel/tire weight as close to factory specs as possible for suspension and braking purposes. Does anyone have any insight or info about what that weight might be or where I could find out? My Q is a 1998 Touring.

Quantum Tek are decent wheels, and there is no reason the wheels you get must be forged. Do you think the OE wheels are forged? No way. Cast wheels are what about 99% of cars come with. What matters most is the quality of the brand (reputation) and if the wheels are made to cary the weight of the Q.

Thanks Falk. The QTs are shoddy because the previous owner must have hit something HARD. One of them was caved in on the inside bead so drastically...well lets just say that it took a huge effort for me to "cold forge" it into something vaguely resembling "round". Its this bad. I used a crow bar, a log splitting wedge, and a sledge hammer (allow your imagination to roam as to technique) to beat the thing into something resembling true. Not only could I not find a replacement S-17 wheel, I could not even find a center cap (one missing).

I'm an old motorcycle roadracer.....I'm happy if my machines go well, stop well, and turn well. Oh yeah, like your Q, I want its looks to send the message that the machine will do all of the above. About 2 months after I bought KingKarl (and after the shade-tree wheel repair), I had occasion to drive the Q across State Highway 26 from Putnam Hall to Gainesville in north-central Florida. This stretch of road features rolling hills and off-camber turns. The Q was absolutely superb at speeds between 90 and 120. Absolutly NO floating as the hills were crested. It felt rock-solid and was responsive in every way. I quess this is my way of saying that if the macine felt this good with at least one out-of-round wheel, how well would the Q perform with the best wheels and tires?

haha that's funny. In that case, you definitely need new wheels! Good luck, welcome to the best Q source around, and look forward to seeing some pics!

1997-1998 Q45t's 16x7" wheel weights 20 lbs.

Thanks 97Q....That means a wheel/tire wt. of around 40 pounds works, assuming the correct offset, etc..

King, I mean pics of the Q!! Especially once you get her sorted. The FGY33 Q45 crew is growing my friends!! We must be up to 10 by now.

20 lb's, not exactly light, especially for 16's. But I'm sure they're strong.

Actually, there is, as the only way to minimize weight increase and maintain or increse strength, especially when going to a larger wheel, is by using a correctly sized forged wheel. There were two types offered on the G50, but when Infiniti moved down market with the FY33 and F50, they were discontinued. JDM has a forged Ray's option for the Y50.

All the best cars have forged wheels OEM for a reason. But like Q45tech says, "Personal standards vary."

It is truly amazing how many US owners think they are driving Cedrics and Glorias.

Brian, you are a little harsh! The Y33 is chasis code for Cima, Cedric and Gloria. You can designate the model as they do in Japan with Y33 XXXX. So it's not wrong to call our Q's just Y33 instead of FGY33 because it IS a Y33, a Y33 Q45. Considering that Y33 Cedric/Gloria was never sold in the US, it's even easier for us to just say Y33, as it's the only version of Y33 chasis sold over here.

Porsche 911 Turbo has CAST wheels. ATS, hollow spoke, cast alloy's. IMO, 911 Turbo is the baddest car made. Forged wheels are nice of course, but there are plenty of cast wheels which are very nice, and of comprable quality. ATS cast alloys are the #1 wheel in German DTM racing.

Sorry, but there is no such thing. All Cima are designated FY33 in FSM and at Nissan or FGY33 in US parts manual. Tell them they are wrong.

Y33 are only Cedric and Gloria according to Nissan.

Ok then, I will only refer to my Q as a Q. Every Japanese magazine I have refers to them as Y33 Cima's, but I guess they are wrong too. Every article show's only Y33, aftermarket (and OE) mfg's list parts for Y33 Cima. Anyways, not trying to start an argument, but it's pretty common for people to shorten things.

EDIT: I was looking up emails to ship some springs out, and I find an email from you, Brian, for a link to Impul, wonder how it lists the Cima? Yep, Y33.Cima
