In my area, Chevron gas is actually cheaper than most of the "discount" brands - even has the local Wal-Mart stations beat by a few cents a gallon.

I have to say that my car runs equally well and gets the same mileage regardless of what I buy. I have been buying Chevron lately since the dealer in my local area decided to beat the prices of the independents. I filled up in Half Moon Bay and drove 330 miles to a Flying J gas station where I took on just about 15 gallons, I was driving about 85-90 most of the time on I5. I than filled up with Flying J and zero difference on acceleration, idle, and from what I can see the mileage was about the same for the last 100 miles into LA.

I think it depends on your area, but I use Costco, Chevron, Flying J (on the road to LA), and a few off-branders and I see no difference. I do drop in a bottle of Techron every few tanks to keep the injectors clean, I need look into this BG stuff you guys are always talking about.

Can you get that locally somewhere?

I normally use Chevron, but filled up on Shell V-Power last weekend and actually got 200 miles at the half tank mark, but that quickly declined when I start driving in the city, I'm at 268 and am at the half way point between E and 1/4 tank.

IMO, the biggest advantage of using quality gasoline isn't seat-of-the-pants drivability or fuel economy - It's how long the car lasts without requiring fuel-system-related repairs (i.e., injector cleaning or replacement, cleaning the deposits on the back of intake valves and piston crowns, figuring out why the Check Engine light is on, etc.). If using top-quality gas keeps the car out of the shop for a couple extra years, it's money well spent.

Can you get that locally somewhere?[/quote]Your best bet is probably by mail order. My local source (an independent repair shop) charges almost $25 a can; I just picked up a 12-pack on ebay for around $9 a can, including shipping charges. If you plan on keeping your Infiniti for a while, it's definitely worthwhile to stock up.

Here's a link to an ebay search for BG-44K that turns up pretty good results.

Thanks appreciate the heads up, I'd like to get some cans of that for sure. Still don't know that Chevron is going to be any diff over the long haul, but worthy of consideration.

Solini, I have had the same exact experience with the gas gauge, I'm like at 200 and near 1/2 thinking rock on this baby is going to get 25 and than it dumps fast and next thing you know it's below E and 1/4. I did notice that I was pretty much just above E and I only could get 15.5 in and I topped it off and it was full, so our gauge is very conservative, at least mine seems to be.

BadQ45t, normally on a fill up I'm only getting anywhere between 14-16 gallons at the most before it tops off. From what I can remember the Y33 has a 21.4 gallon tank. I keep saying i'm going to drive it until it runs out, but that never happens, I've only allowed my gas light to come on once.

It does in fact hold 21.4 or .5 something like that. I have never been able to get more than 18 into it and for that the light was on for 30-40 miles, I was sweating it but i knew the trip meter setting and I had filled it up to the top so I kept going to see...the gauge is VERY VERY conservative, I think you confirmed that. On my trip to LA I was just barely above E and it only took 15.5 gallons.

I dont know..... mine is pretty accurate, ive let it get down to 1.5 gallons before..... scary!

Once it dips below the E line, then you know its time to fill up!

Put non-ethanol gas into the car - fill up.Put one can of BG-44k.Put 5oz of pure (high quailty) acetone.

The gas milage on your FY33 will average 26-28 MPG....

Like I said - just do it. DO this for 3-4 tanks. Add BG-44k to the initial tank only. And keep track of your milage.

that is soo true

I think the first gen were much more accurate, my 92' was like that too, but the 97' scares you into getting gas sooner, but you're really not suppose to run it that low anyways so it never really bothered me.

BTW, where are you guys getting acetone?
