Just curious, I have had othe cars with Bose systems in the past. I have changed the decks in these cars to aftermarket setups and they worked fine with the factory bose amps still in the car with no type of converter. It was all plug and play.

Is this true with the Y33 as well?

I didn't want to reuse the tiny Bose amp when I did my system. The Bose amp is incompatible with aftermarket headunit, unless a converter is used.

Really? What does the converter do? On all my other decks all I did was found the remote wire on the factory amps and plugged it into the one on the new deck and everything played nicely.

All the install shops said I needed a converter but I got it to work without it. Just trying to figure out if I can do this with this car.

Some really high powered radios will overload the input stage of the Bose amps and could cause some damage over time. I run a stereo shop in Cali and we tie into the bose all the time and on your car you can go speaker level into the amps with a standard Nissan plug but if the wattage output is too high you will have very little Volume control. Meaning that two or three clicks on the radio volume will be blowing you out of the car. This is where a converter comes into play. You would then want to get a adjustable LOC (Line output converter) to adjust down the output of the deck to a more reasonable level. I have a Eclipse in my own car and just sold one to a 97 Q and they work great with no adapter required. If you feel you need one check out http://www.davidnavone.com
