I believe it has to have an official CARB exemption to be legal, thus, the manufacturer would have to submit it for testing before selling it "legally".

To answer your question, The Racingline Y-pipe does not have a CARB exemption mentioned in their website. Althought they claim that it will pass the Smog Test (US).

"... No additional modifications are necessary and the car (in proper running condition) will still pass all known USA & Canada smog tests."

They also mention: "... Because this pipe deletes a catalytic converter, it is thus branded "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY."

So there is only one way to know. test it ;)

It deletes an un-metered cat, so no SES lights come on .

Thanks for the quick response.... I just installed it today at a local shop, and the guy there didn't want to install it cuz he had gotten a ticket for it. I thought it was kind of weird.

Weird, do you plan on getting an aftermarket exhaust?

I got the borla exhaust about a year ago and just today I installed the y-pipe. It sounds pretty clean dude.

If i'm not mistaken, the fact that it deletes a cat automatically rules it out from CARB exemption. At the very least, it would automatically fail a visual inspection
