I gutted some
550 cord and used a few of the inside strands to go around the front bumper. It's heavy duty enough to last all winter and if you tie it tight enough it won't slip. I've seen people use fishing line on pushe bars and stuff, but didn't want to use it on my bumper just in case I cinched down a knot too tight and cut into it.

550 cord is also light coloured, so it didn't stick out on my yellow, and would blend in even better on your silver.
I commute at highway speeds (and sometimes a little over

) so I only ran it when I knew I just going to be toodling (is that a word?) around town.
