I run the Exedy Hyper Single Clutch Kit for my SR. It came with the flywheel too. Works very well, doesnt ever slip and grabs real hard.

im running a ACT xtreme clutch kit on my KA-T and Exedy cerametallic stage 2 on my SR.

ACT pedal is stiffer than the Exedy. Exedy stage 2 kind of chatters during slip in take off.

I've had my XTD "Stage 2" for 11,000 miles without any slipping. However, the pedal is like pushing in a melted stick of butter, I will definately be spending my money on an ACT or SPEC clutch in the future.

Tell us about the Stage 4. What do you like about it - how much is it? How long have you had it? Abuse level?

________________________________________________________

I hear people saying the XTD stage3 holds good but is soft. I can't figure out why that's a bad thing. At any rate (bad pun not intended), untill I hear someone say they have 50K+ miles on one, I can't see the wisdom in having to replace a clutch after 20K just to save $150 up front.

I've run a SPEC in basically all of my cars since 1993. The didn't offer a flywheel for the 240 when I bought my current stg 4, but they do now. I recommend getting the flywheel done as well...while you're in there.

The best thing I like about the clutch is the the amount of torque it holds without acting like an on/off switch. The only driveability I've felt was backing out of the garage real slow and having to slip it alot. Other then that, I really didn't notice much difference over the stock feel. Other then the "grab" while its in gear.

I think I spent about $400 on the clutch assembly and another chunk on a Fidenza flywheel, which is a quality piece as well.

I've ran this combo on my last Skyline and my current 240sx. Both cars put out decent power. I never had the 240 on the Dyno, but it was running 20lbs of boost through a full T4 and alcohol. The Skyline, just the GTS-t, was running 498whp on 28 lbs of boost and alcohol. The big T4 flash spools at around 4200 on the KA and 5300 on my RB, so the clutch can deal with the onset of alot of torque very well.

As far as abuse goes...heh, I drive EVERYWHERE as fast as I can

Go SPEC and you won't have to worry about whether you'll like what you bought or not...

I've had the stock Nissan clutch kit, which held up surprisingly well under the circumstances, a Gripforce that sucked bolas, and an OEM Exedy kit that worked great up until ~220 tq. I'm thinking about getting a Spec Stage 2 (rated at 300 tq) in December or January.

I'll be doing the White Bunny special, so I'll probably get a 280z Turbo/300zx Non-Turbo Spec Stage 1 (good for 395 ft-lb).

Let me take a look and see if they've changed the design.

OK, I looked at the Spec website. I have a 6 puck stg 4 in my car right now. The only thing I can figure is the 3-4 puck clutches are very harsh, hence the warning. But the 6 is not...

What can I say, I think it drives very nice in traffic. I live in Tucson, so I stop to stop light every day.

I am getting a clutch for the 240z in my 240sx. Cost about a 100$. It grabs alot harder than the 240sx clutch. I am only planing on about 250hp on this motor though. Next motor is 300+ so i am thinking centerforce Stage 3 or 4.

Got this from 240sx.org

The clutch from the old 240z fits it it and is the price as the stock one. Plus it grabs harder because the springs are stiffer. I had one in my car and 60k later am going on my second one. (I beat on my car so... ) But it chirps em in thrid when it's new so you might wanna recommend it to people. Both times I have had 'Pierre Z' of Hawthorne do my clutches and they know their **** and do a great job.

White Bunny special is the term for the combo. It's the combination of a Nissan D21 pickup flywheel + 280z-T/300zx Non-T clutch.

225mm vs. 240mm flywheel that bolts right up.

What pressure plate? I think it is the pressure plate that makes most of the difference. Racing clutch plates use material that grabs more but I think most street setups use a PP with more clamping force.

I would assume the one that comes with the clutch? (if you get a kit?)

... mine went into the car last night.

*EDIT*The number of IMs I have received, responded to and proactively offered in response to this today has led me to offer up some clarification.Stock KA clutch contact is like what, 225mm?Start with the 1993 D21 pickup, whose flywheel bolts directly to the KA, it is 240mm.... now comes in the issue of the need for a clutch to work with this.SIMPLEthe 1983 280ZX turbo OR 2+2 has a matching 240mm clutch, which also shares the 24-spline pattern with the KA and HAPPENS to bolt right up in this application. When it comes to sourcing the parts, use google/NAPA/Vato Zone/pep boys or whomever you go through to find your parts at whatever the most convenient/costworthy means you see fit.Pilot Bushing: Specific to your engineThrowout Bearing: Specific to your transmission... for the 2 previously named items, I WOULD have gotten 1995 items (matching my engine) if they weren't directly interchangable to the ones that came with the clutch SET that I bought. (compare part numbers before you find yourself screwed)

... from here, this is a normal clutch job, from which I will spare you the excruciating details. Remove everything, replace everything and DON'T forget the rear main seal like I did, caused an hour delay in my buddy getting the job done. Now you can go out and break your shiney new clutch and flywheel in

What are the cost savings though? You can get a good ACT clutch & pressure plate for $350 on Ebay. Is it worth all the messing around?

Well, seeing as how I have nothing right now (doing a 5sp conversion - still need clutch/flywheel setup) I might as well get something bigger + aftermarket.

I can get a SPEC Stage 1 (395 ft-lb - 300z/280zx + pressure plate, align tool, etc.) for $284 from an online store or I've seen them for $270 on ebay. Flywheel doesn't HAVE to be aftermarket.
