I have a '90 n/a and am trying to find a fun way that not everyone has done. I figured the manifold of the xterra might be the same pattern, but i dont know for sure. also a rear mount turbo, anyone have input and pros/cons on setting up a rear turbo.

Thanks!!

the xterra/frontier vg33ei is a single cam motor and the intake manifolds are completely diferent as are the heads (this means you can't use the vg30ei intake ont he vg30de block)and even if you could the sc doesn't move enough air to be meaningfull, you'd need a larger sc to make any real power

as fro the rear mount it's been done, it cheaper to sell your n/a and buy a tt, yes you can do it with junkyard parts and you can engineer a lag free system (most people just don't understand enough about boost and make vague statements) if you know what youa re doing, there si 1 on here but he's using a very small single turbo and while he hasn't dyno'd it I'd be suprosed if he exceeded 200-250 whp

for 5k and up you can buy a factory TT, no shipping clips, no collecting parts, no waiting, no sleepless nights, and you'll have a propper "C" code car nto some hackjob swap, and then you sell your n/a to offset the cost, the cost difference int he models keeps on shrinking

Dave, my buddy and I have been researching doing a rear-mount on his A4 and everything we come up with spells disgusting lag, so in short can you please explain how you can alleviate the lag with a rear-mount? I'd really like to know man.

it's all about selecting the right turbo and having the right engine compression, if you are turboing an n/a unless you are going with a huge fatty turbo there is virtually no lag because you are moving more air at the same rpm

yes if you move the TT's stock turbo's to the rear and kept everthign else the same you'd have more lag and less boost at the tb's, this is why you have to select the right turbo, there is a lot of complex math invlved but you need to calculate the knee point and peak point and slect the turbo that is in it's highest ve's in those ranges yet flows enough lbs/min to meet your power goals

with a rear mount turbo you have lots more feet of piping for the air to travel through, the further the air travels the more the pressure drops so in a rear mount setup you'll want a slightly higher flowing compressor than a front mounted unit

on the plus side having a rear mounted turbo makes the turbo run cooler which yields a longer life and lower air tuems leaving the turbo, and being so far awaw also makes for significantly lower intake tems at the tb which means more power form a given volume of air

I like my n/a lol. If i were to sell it i'd probably buy something more practical like a subaru or a G35x. grrr. Maybe a rear mount turbo will be fun, i want the fun factor of a turbo back in my life :(
