I've been doing a lot of searching but haven't come up with any good answers.I've got an '07 Xterra S 4x4 4.0.

I'd like to upgrade my stock stereo, but don't want a gaudy crazy flashing lights setup. I'd like the lights of the stereo to match the stock Nissan/Infiniti yellow interior lights. Anyone know of any brands that have either matching lights or adjustable ones?

Also, Having the VQ40DE is rad, but it doesn't sound that mean with stock exhaust. I'd rather it sounded more like a G35, actually. Anyone got good ideas for a deep growling exhaust or have sound clips? I've read mixed reviews on magnaflow/flowmaster setups...

Thanks in advance for any info or links...

Car stereos never match the interior lights unless it is just by chance. I worked in electronics before, and have put a stereo in just about every vehicle I have ever owned and I still have yet to see one that even came close to matching. I would just forget about that right now if you want to change the stereo. There is a 99.9% chance that it won't match and that no available system will match. Pioneer (and some other brands) have OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent)displays available, but most of the ones I've seen are blueish or greenish.

I don't know about the exhaust, have to find somebody who has actually installed and ran one of the systems.

Google names like Gibson, Borla, and Dynomax for exhaust system choices for your Xterra. Gibson and Borla both make cat-back bolt in systems and they aren't cheap quality either.

The other option you have is visit a local muffler shop and have a larger diameter pipe bent to fit your 07 Xterra. Leave the Catalytic convertor(s) in place because it's the right thing to do there...and source Magnaflow or Dynomax for one of their hi-flow performance mufflers.

If you feeling rich you could also spring for the Mandrel Bent Pipe but not many shops have the Mandrel Bending system. (Mandrel's are designed to keep the bends at the original pipe diameter. Bends in exhaust pipes generally create restrictions but mandrel bending reduces this affect significantly.

Good to know. I guess it's not that important to match. In the end it's about features and sound quality.

I agree but if you really want to go performance there are high flow cats available. My brother has used them before with a somewhat noticeable sound and "butt dyno" difference.

I've heard headers do very well on the 4.0. Nissan sells the best ones of these that I have seeen (Nismo). A Cold air intake often will change the sound of your engine a bit (not really the sound of the exhaust, but the sound you hear in the cab). NIssan offers a good one, as do other companys. I believe the F5 fuji (i think that is right) is on a thread in this forum and has produced good results on the dyno.
