I finally got rid of my 90 240sx coupe and I am really thinking about getting either a used (2004-2006) Xterra or Pathfinder. I would prefer to have the 4x4 version even though I probably will never drive it offroad. I have been looking for the past few days now and is pretty much stuck on either SUVs. I also noticed that some Xterra's do not have power windows. What's up with that? If I'm not mistaken, that is the "X" model, correct? For under $22,000....which one out of the two would be a the better choice? Any inputs or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've never driven a Pathfinder, but from a Nissan driving perspective I preferred the Frontier > Xterra.

The Pathy is far more refined and has a lot more motor than an Xterra in the 2000-2004 model years (VQ35DE vs a VG33E). While it doesn't lend itself to offroad mods like the Xterra does, if you don't plan on wheeling it much anyways, the Pathfinder is a clear choice, but they will also cost more.

2005+, power wise, it's a wash. The Xterra is a little more rugged with a live rear axle with leaf springs vs. the Pathfinder IRS. Again, if you're not planning to wheel much, the Pathfinder is still the better choice, and again, it will cost more.

Xterras are made to be utilitarian and low frills. That's their market niche. That's why you can find them without power windows, etc.

thanks for the input, guys. From searching online, I have found several Xterras and Pathfinders within my spending budget. The main thing that is really persuading me towards the Pathfinder is the available 3rd row seating for extra passengers. I don't usually haul around a lot of passengers anyways, but this feature is a plus. The next thing for me to do is actually test driving both models so I can get the feel of what each one is like. I just hope the car salesman don't haggle me to buy this and buy that. They can be annoying at times.

I'd also prefer the pathfinder for your needs and what you are looking to use it for. Andy hit it on the nose as to reasons why. Good luck with your purchase, post up pics when you get your new ride.

I will, guys. More than likely, I will get it sometime next week or so. My mother-in-law and niece are coming to visit next month, so the 4dr Integra that I'm currently driving will be a tad too small.

For the mother in law, you should trade up to a dumptruck.

sup guys...I finally found and bought a nicely "pre-owned" '05 Pathfinder XE 4x2 this past weekend for a killer price. The only thing that sucks is the fact that the dealership somehow misplaced the remote for the keyless entry. I am assuming I can purchase these from eBay for under $40 for (2). I definitely don't want to head down to Nissan and pay an arm and a leg for them. Anyways....it is basically stock, but I love it!!!

I'd have left the dealer on the hook to get you a new one.

Contact the salesman you bought it from and insist that they provide you with a remote. You said they lost it...why should you have to pay for the replacement?

In Canada those things are $75.00 each

I would...but a new one is out of my budget. Plus, it was not a Nissan dealership that I got my Pathfinder from.

Yeah, I thought about that, but when it comes down to it, I might be wasting more time dealing with them on that replacement remote. It may be Christmas time til I get it from them. LOL

*** BTW, I bought (2) remotes yesterday off of eBay for under $16.00 FOR BOTH...SHIPPED!!

this may sound tacky..but I'm thinking about putting these emblems on the liftgate of my pathfinder since there are no "XE" emblems. What do you guys think.....cheezy or okay??
