Note that you can't just swap the DE heads onto your VG-E, so you'll need a whole VG30DETT, but that's okay because the DETT internals are better than the VG-E internals anyway.
The biggest issue will be fittment. The VG30DETT is BIG, with it's twin intakes, twin turbo plumbing, twin intercoolers, etc. It makes the VG-E look tiny. Also, the VG-DE heads are quite a bit larger than the VG-E heads. There's probably room, since I don't think the Xterra engine bay is any smaller than the Z's (if nothing else, it offers more vertical space).
I'm also not sure if the VG-E and VG-DE share mounting points, but those could be fabbed in the event that the do not.

They used VG30DE rods and bigger-bore VH45 pistons in a VG30E to create a 3.4 liter VG-E.
Other power options for your Xterra using the stock motor:
Factory supercharger (if it hasn't got it already).Z31 VG30ET turbo on your VG33E. Worth experimenting with.
Or combine the turbo or supercharger with the above mentioned 3.4 liter build.
