xterra A/C seems electrical

The A/C on my 2008 xterra is going bonkers. The A/C light will only stay on in position 1. When it is on, the air is cool sometimes and warm sometimes and the air sometimes comes out of the dash vents and sometimes out the floor. In positions 2,3,4 the light flickers and the air sometimes blows cool out the dash vents and sometimes not.

Vehicle had a new battery last week and this has started since that battery was installed.

Suggestions as to repair or diagnostics from this group of experts would be appreciated.
