I bought this FMIC kit for my CA swap and from what i hear it doesn't need any modifications. However I'm wondering what i need to do for a battery? Will the stock one still work?

stock battery? Nope. The piping would go right through the middle of the battery.

C-Rad is right the coldpipe runs right through the tray. We used a Bosch battery for a 1994 Miata fits beside fusebox and coldpipe with no problems. No need to extend the battery cables either.

All of the FMIC kit that I'm aware of require you to drill a hole through the battery tray. Therefore the installation of a FMIC kit will always require the use of a smaller, or a relocated battery.

I'm guessing Relocation to the trunk would be cheapest?

Pretty much. I relocated my battery not too long ago. Is not that hard either. I brought 25ft of 2 gauge wire from ebay for like 30 bucks. The box was like $12 bucks from autozone and in accessories like another $10 bucks.

I would just get the odyssey battery its $93 but well worth it, plus the battery only weighs about 14 lbs so you save weight, also the battery is a dry cell so no maintenance and it can be mounted on its side.

well i went to go buy a miata battery and i was looking around and saw the lawn tractor batteries. They are the same size and have 20 less cranking amps than the miata one at 0 degress which it never gets here and even if it does i wont be driving my car. I got it for $28 so lets see how long it lasts.

It is rated at 425amps at 32Deg. F and 340 amps at o degF. So it should be ok for $28. We shall see.

I'm sure you already did but make sure that its 12 volts. I've seen some lawn batteries that were only 8 volts. Found it kinda odd but just wanted you to know. Whats the reserve capacity compared to the miata battery?

wei

I not sure about the reserve capacity compared to the miata battery but they both physically the same size. The miata battery just had a few more cranking amps. Hope it holds up. It has a 3 year warrenty. The battery is made by enegizer. I should have just bought a 12 pack of D batteries to run my car. LOL

Looks good. Only if SSA was so creative. Oh and the reserve capacity is 40 Minutes. The only problem i can forsee is that the pos and neg. terminals are oposite from the miata battery. So i dont know if that is going to cause a problem or not.

*edit: This place is selling a battery with less cca's than my lawn mower battery and they say it is for a miata. So it looks like this battery should do the trick. It's fairly light too.

I've been running a lawn and garden tractor for years, in VERY cold, Kansas temps w/o any problems whatsoever

Great to hear. Quick question though. What am i looking at in terms of say leaving the radio on while the car is off? Is it real bad like after 5 mins the car wont start? What about leaving your lights on by accident? Ever have that happen. how long was it for and did your car start afterwards?

In all honesty, I don't have a radio, so I can't tell you much about that, but I've left the lights on for about 2 hrs once with the car off, and it started right back up. I wouldn't be too worried about it to be honest.
