Xpipe?

In 2014, the G37 Sedan became Infiniti Q50. G37 Coupe and Convertible became Infiniti Q60 under Infiniti's new naming structure - Here's the place to discuss the Q50 and Q60!

I have the Top speed axleback exhaust and it's great but I was wondering if adding an xpipe would help a little with the drone?

It's possible...it's also possible it could make it worse as well. If there is no drone without the axleback then any drone would be due to it. You could look into larger resonators.

It has drone now although not horrible. As far as resonators, do you mean high flow like from magnaflow?

The factory midpipe actually has two resonators built into it.

You could add a couple of smaller resonators to it but the problem you are having is probably due to the axle-back itself. The inside of the new muffler is probably causing the drone and, honestly, I doubt anything but changing it will be satisfactory.

So would the xpipe be replacing the mid pipe? If not then I could just add to it. I spoke with an exhaust shop and they said it would probably reduce the drone a little bit.

Below is the factory exhaust

I'm not really sure where they would add another Xpipe as the split in the midpipe is to give space for the rear diff. If they do somehow accomplish the task who knows how it will change the flow characteristics, effect mpg and performance, or IF it will be enough change to stop the drone. IF the drone is NOT from the exhaust system prior to the muffler then there will still be drone, IMO.

Well I saw your suggestion about better resonators but where would I find them? I looked but couldn’t find anything. I may be looking in the wrong place. As far as the xpipe is concerned the only two options I see is having a custom xpipe done before the resonators or replacing the resonators with a resonated xpipe. I like the sound I have way more than the stock which is why I’m trying to find a solution. Thanks!

If you didn't have drone before putting on the axle-back then it's not the rest of the factory exhaust causing the drone. I understand you like the sound better but it does not seem the factory portion is the problem.

Well, even with the stock exhaust there was a little drone when lightly on the pedal at low speeds, but it was minimal. It just seems that when the pitch is a little higher on this car the drone is non existent. That’s why I thought the xpipe might help and I could even get a small gain due to the improved exhaust gas scavenging.

You can give it a whirl but I don't think it will necessarily fix anything. I never noticed drone on my stock exhaust.

Thank you for the info. Ill have to take it to an exhaust shop and see if they have any suggestions. I love the sound but it can get a little loud. To bad they didn't make dual mode exhausts for our cars.

Amazingly the factory system does pretty well. I believe a full dual exhaust catback system only gives back a few HP to the point it's only noticeable on the dyno. The Invidia system I had on my coupe was a dual system (with xpipe) and I loved the sound but never took the car to the strip to see what it could really do. Maybe the new owner will. Who knows.

Ok so I found an X-pipe from Dyno max online. The part number is 53702. It looks like it would fit but does anyone know the diameter of the inlet at the cats and at the mid pipe?

How do you plan on installing that with the factory system? From the cats then as 2 pipes to the inlet of your muffler? Adding a couple resonators?
