Hey there everyone!

My 3 year subscription to XM radio is about to end in couple days. Way back in Oct. 2009 I paid roughly $400 for 3 years of service. Now they want me to renew with the same 3 years for $490. Not happening.

After quickly sifting through some google searches and forums, the best deal for renewal seems to be $86 for one year. This is after you call XM and say you want to cancel, and they eventually counter with this offer.

So is this $86/year my best deal moving forward with XM??? (assuming all these posts I see on the internet say that is what they got recently when they told XM they were gonna cancel their subscription)

Do any of you have any recent experience with this? Listening to plain old FM radio is not an option for me since I have been so used to listening to satellite radio in the G, so I have to continue the service one way or another.... just don't wanna get raked!

Thanks for any and all input

That's the way I have done it for the last 4 years. I don't know what the current deal is but last November I paid 180 for both home and car. Whatever people are telling you might not include the royalty fee XM has to pay to artists. If I had to pay full subscription price I would have dropped it long ago and just listen to my Ipod(which I use more than the radio). Good luck and keep us informed. I have to go through this charade in about three weeks. :gotme

Called XM today. Talked to their "listener care" department which is really their retention department. Ended up getting one year for $86 (almost half the quoted price on their website). Total was like $94 after royalty fees. Call was about 6 minutes long and was easy without any haggling.

I've been with XM for about 10 years now, and I have to use this tactic every year or two. It's unfortunate they can't just give the best deal to their loyal customers without the threat of cancellation, but that's the way it is, I guess. As mentioned, it only takes a few minutes and they always end up giving me a deal for around $100/year.

I refuse to pay more then $5 a month for it...they had a 6-month deal for $30...some promo. After that I just let mine drop. I used the Hard Drive for music anyway :)

Now if I needed the traffic feature, I probably would have spent more.

We dropped ours on both vehicles. With iPod and Pandora, who needs it?

yeah i dont use any ipod... or mp3 player. i do use a USB flash drive though. I love being able to tune into live football games when im on a road trip or just ESPN in general anywhere i am with XM. also i like listening to alot of the radio shows all without having to worry about tuning to another station everytime i get into another radio market. the weather alerts come in handy way more than the traffic alerts, but they price it so you have to get them both cause having just one is about the same price of them together smh.

im now spoiled by not having any commercials, everytime i do listen to FM radio i get annoyed now lol. they other thing i do like is being able to listen to some random type of music i might not have on my usb drive like classical or jazz.

Ya know something funny? My iPod has made it to where I can't stand to listen to a CD anymore. I don't like to listen to any one band play more than 3 or 4 songs in a row. Now whenever I buy/download a new album, I just put it in my rotation and listen to it when it comes up.

The hard drive is definitely the way to go. I can't stand listening to the radio anymore.

If you have an Android phone, Google maps, which is completely free, includes free traffic updates.
