Hi all:

I have a '91Q and am looking to install XM satellite radio. I have the stock Bose/Clarion stereo system. There is a (stock?)Sony 10 disc changer in the trunk with the control console mounted on the console just to the rear of the gearshift.

I want to install XM and am looking for the cleanest installation with the best sound.

Is there an auxiliary input to the stock Bose/Clarion head unit? If so, how accessible is this input? What is involved with removal of the head unit to access either the auxiliary input or fm antenna input.

BTW; I can't use a cassette input because the tape player hasn't worked since I've owned the car. Not sure the problem, but doesn't eject the tape properly thereby locking out the rest of the stereo until the tape can be extricated.

Thanks

Tim

Pioneer AVIC-Z1 has an XM module available, and a whole lot of other stuff.

You have a few options Tim...

First option you can use a AUX-IN adapter. Email QSIGUY on the forum, he sells them for pretty cheap...

I also have a stock Q head unit you can have if you want, its from a 94.. I have like 4 of them laying in my attic. It wont work with the sony 10CD, i dont think. It might. I know the tape deck on at least 2 of them work fine because Ive had 2 different 94 HUs in my Q before switching to the in-dash unit from a 99 G20. I currently use the tape thing on the G20 HU for my XM and it works great.

Youll want to consider where you want the antenna... I put mine on the trunklid and it worked pretty good... Right now i have it on the C pillar but the paint is nasty there anyway so it doesnt bother me if it scratches... Ill move it once i repaint.

To remove the HU, youll need to remove the bezel around the shifter. Pull up on it toward the back of it and itll snap out. Then undo the ash tray, 2 screws... Theres 2 more screws on the back part of the trim piece and that shoudl remove it. Lift up and it will come undone....
