XL Tires?

I found a great deal on some Pirelli P-Zero Nero 245/40/19 tires. But they are XL (Extra Load) intended for heavier cars (SUV's, etc.) I'm used to the stock 17" tires and the ride is perfect. I could live with a little more stiffness but are the XL tires on 19" rims going to be noticeable harsher than non-XL? Or would the XL actually offer more protection from rim damage due to potholes?

The more harsh ride is going to come from the 40 series tire vs the oem 17" tires. I don't think you are going to notice any difference between XL & non XL tires. Unfortunately when adding performance, sometimes you loose some luxury.
