They require you to have the disk in so you can't play games you don't own. If you didn't need the disk, you could just borrow, rent, or trade all your games back in and keep playing them.Dtsn280zx wrote:This update is FTW because u can install ur games to HD so u dont need the disk to play :O now rent a game, install it take it back and now you own it wooo

There are still benefits to installing games to the HDD, though. Load times improve and your system will run cooler and quieter.
When I bought my Elite, everyone asked me "Why? What are you going to do with that huge HDD? My 20 gig is plenty big."Well...I'll tell you what I'm going to do with my 120GB HDD: I'm going to install ALL my games.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet....i knew getting the Elite would pay off in the end for more than just HDMI...MinisterofDOOM wrote:My Xbox > Press Y > Choose "Install to Hard Drive."
Installing the games to your hard drive won't necessarily make it load faster. Bungie has already stated that installing Halo 3 will actually make it run slower. I installed GTA IV last night and haven't noticed any difference.MinisterofDOOM wrote:

How can they possibly work fine when they're designed for a completely different layout? There are no more blades, so there's no way to use more than 1 background image. And that one background image is half-obscured by the shiny "floor." Not to mention the coloration and texturing changes for the blade system...which is gone. There's nothing left of the old design for the themes to change.keith0486 wrote:how so all the ones i had still work fine i haven't seen anything wrong with them.
on both counts. I want to change the Xbox jersey to a Sooners Jersey damnit!Dittoz7 wrote:Mine Only Took Around 2mins To Download.

On the other hand, some games use multiple textures for the same object. Basically, the system inplements a low res texture then a progressively higher res texture until the highest is used. This helps to cut down on bandwidth problems between the DVD-ROM and console in situations where a full-res texture may not be able to load quickly enough. An article I read earlier in the week indicated that the time interval between low-res and full-res textures appearing on screen decreased when the game was played off the harddrive. Of course, these are all likely case by case. Especially with games that utilize a lot of bandwidth to the harddrive (which appears to be the case with Halo).Knightro2 wrote:

Although not having the DVD drive spinning makes for a quieter experience.
