Just in case you missed it. The HD DVD for Xbox is now $49.99, almost everywhere (Circuit City, Best Buy). I know that Toshiba no longer makes HD DVD players, but at $49.99 its a good deal. And if you buy one by Feb 28 you also get 5 free movies by mail. Besides HD DVD movies will be around for a while and most movies will be on sale

Whats in the box:Xbox Universal remote (goes for $20)King Kong Movie (goes for $20)HD DVD drive ($10 is the price you pay for the drive )

And when HD DVD is dead in a year or two, I can still use my HD DVD drive to watch movies, to save the DVD drive in my Halo 360.

..just letting you guys know

I think someone forgot to tell target. Saw it there today for $179.99. But $49 everywhere else. Not a bad deal if you like the movies in that format and aren't gonna shell out the dough for a PS3 yet.

I found out a bit too late... Everyone was sold out b4 i could grab one. A new shipment camein at Best Buy, but i had no money. Oh well, I will wait till Christmas time when prices for Blu-Ray are said to drop. Difference in Blu-Ray over HD DVD??? I didn't see any. But Blu-Ray hold FAR more data. Personally I don't even see why there was a competition in the first place. No difference in quality but one holds more data than the other... Hmmm... More data (plus a better name) FTMFW!

Well BluRay does hold more data but a standalone player was much much more expensive than HD-DVD when they were still competing. Even when the prices drop on them it will still probably be cheapest to just buy a PS3.

+1

well they do hold more data, but it's more than that. BluRays actually push a max of 40mbps vs. HD's 28mbps.. which generally means better picture quality. and the discs themselves are physically better than others. all BDs come hard coated with a protective layer of film, in which you can literally scratch it up, throw dirt and fingerprints on it and it will still play no problem.

and LOL at rumors of Microsoft planning on putting BluRay into Xbox 360s.

it's not just to watch BluRay movies, Microsoft. PS3 games are also BluRay

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking "sweet, I should grab one."

Then I remember that I don't have an HDTV.

It might be the year 23,000. Doesn't mean I can spare cash for a several-hundred dollar TV.

I just recently joined the HD world. Bought a cheap HDTV and am very pleased with it.

hahah update on HD-DVD movies:

I just got off work, and my department (gaming/media) got a message from corporate saying, "Please keep a good number of totes aside for the HD-DVD movie send-back at the end of March." I can't recall exactly word-for-word what the message said, but basically it was said that Best Buy will no longer be selling HD-DVDs at the end of March.

..maybe I was right about waiting for retailers to start handing out HD players for free hahah
