The family of a budding computer programmer have on Saturday launched a campaign to raise awareness about the health risks of playing online computer games after their son died following a marathon session on his Xbox.
A post-mortem revealed that 20-year-old Chris Staniforth -- who was offered a place to study Game Design at Leicester University -- was killed by a pulmonary embolism, which can occur if someone sits in the same position for several hours.

and

In 2005, a South Korean gamer died after playing online games for three days without taking a break.

i know a lot of you guys on here are gamers. What's the longest you've ever played without a break?

Normal people have to get up to pee after a while, so I don't see how this could happen.

I doubt that sitting a long time was the single cause of what happened.

Some thing like 10 hours. I change position frequently, as sitting still gets uncomfortable. I figure if my back is saying "hey stupid, switch positions" I should listen to it.
.. oh wait, I just reread the last line of your post- I missed the break part- I take breaks fairly regularly, to either get food or smoke. Its good to get up, walk around and change focus for at least a few minutes. It also helps stay sharp for online gaming.

When Simcity 2000 first came out in the mid 90s I went through a phase like this. Only got up to s***, piss, and eat. Quite a summer. Glad I survived.

AH-HA I KNEW IT!! Its all a scam. Microsoft gets you addicted to crap and you die from it shortly after.

No matter how good the game is, I will still get bored of it after like 6 hours straight. Also I wouldnt wanna beat a game in 2 days, that ruins the fun factor and the $60 I think.

I care. Wait, no I don't. Losers playing games all day dropping dead, sounds like a start. Darwin shall not be denied!

I have played Half Life 1 and 2 through to completion without interruption more than once (about 8 hours each on an average playthrough).

However, as much of a nerd as I am, I still can't stand to spend too much time in front of a computer except in rare occasions. Even my more marathon game sessions are divided up by other things at least occasionally.

Most people who get blood clots are the elderly or those immobilzed in a hospital setting, medically known as a DVT (deep vein thrombosis). It frequently happens in the arms or legs, Upon movement it may dislodge then travel to the heart causing an obstruction and most likely death if not treated. Signs are; swelling in the effected extremity and warmth to the touch. I think its treated with blood thinners, not too big a deal if its diagnosed and treated.

On another note I rented LA Noire got hooked on the gameplay and 90+ licenced cars from the 40's, played that game for 12 hours in a 24hr period. Its been a loooong time since I gamed that much.

Recently it was 8 or so hours of Team Fortress 2. Or when I have insomnia I'll play Civ V until I pass out.

I played WoW for a year and a half since beta and I'm sure there were a couple days where I woke up and played until I fell asleep.

NO DIBS!!!!!!!

I can't play any shooters for very long though. The thrill of virtual homicide wears off after a while. Strategy games keep me interested.
