I started my 09 G37X the other morning for about a minute before I left for work. It seems a little loud for about the first 20-30 seconds after starting her, then the loudness passes. Is this normal or does she have issues ?? HELP !!

That doesn't tell us much. What kind of noise? Exhaust, engine? It is running around 2k rpm and maybe the exhaust you hear if you tell us more we can probably help you.

Well, I'd imagine it's a little cold where you're at. The oil has to be pumped up to the top of the engine. I think that's what you're hearing, is that the first 20-30 seconds, there may not be sufficient oil at the top.

Just a hunch.

Speak to the service manager

I bekieve that is why they recommend ester oil if the valve noise bothers you when the engine is cold.

Sorry guys, new to this forum thing (and forgive me, I'm a girl ). It does it from a cold start (40-50 degrees in the garage). When I start it, the RPM's are at about 1400 and it sounds more like its exhaust noise. A little loud and raspy like she just finished off a pack of Marlboro's Once the RPM's drop, it quiets right down. The first time I heard it I was a little surprised at how loud it is initially. Hope this helps you all. Everything runs fine, no lights on or anything, just thought I'd ask my new friends for some advice

That noise is completely normal. All the g37's I have heard @ cold start up sounded that way, even the loaner I had for a week did the exact same thing.

Yes, I have that noise also. We took it to the dealer and they didn't seem to hear it. They went around the lot and started many others and they all seemed to sound like mine.

The exhaust sounds a little rough because under cold start, the VVEL timing and overlap is allowing quick warm up and the car wants to get the cats nice and toasty. Plus, because of the symmetrical exhaust and tuned exhaust manifolds, it sounds a bit like a boxer engine, which I guess subie lovers don't mind....
