does anyone know what shifter this is? looks wierd and i'm curious as to why it's so large and.... well... different i guess.

Drift car.

Though i am not sure of how the mechanics behind it work.

I just know i have seen it in pro type drift cars.

Well that video right there proves that it is not just for drift cars.

That thing is pretty sweet. It is a lot like the way the Evo X MR shifts.

Only you still have a clutch unlike the EvoX MR.

I don't see it being fun anywhere but the track.

it shifts like a motorcycle shifts. push forward to shift up, pull back to shift down.

i believe it is a sequential transmission. pretty much it is a semi-automatic transmission. No need for a clutch during gear change during driving. only need a clutch from a stop. Also you only can hande between 2 gears at a single moment. like a Up and Down shift. pretty effin sweet when you see it in action.

thanx for the link guys, it explained everything. it's badass but the only reason they don't use the clutch is because they modified the trans to use dog cut gears instead of helical cut. and the reason ghast says that it won't be fun on the street is because dog boxes are loud and noisy as all hell, not to mention they do not have synchros and expensive as all hell.

i know that nismo sells trans that are already dog cut gears but i don't know how much

i have a evo x mr and the trannys arent bad car will still get sideways when its shiftsto 2nd gear going around a turn

That sounds like compressor surge to me?
