So My 94 Q has been acting weird and giving signs the starter is bad.

Have to turn the key a few times and then it would start. COld days would start no problem. FInally this afternoon all I get is a click. I hear the solenoid engage but no cranking of the motor. OK banged on the starter a few times, nothing. Banged on it a alot more times, nothing. OK fine, go and replace the starter and still will not turn over. Solenoid clicks but no motor. Now I am noticing this weird egg smell starts everytime we try turning over the motor. Tried bypassing the Relay for the starter and still same thing, no motor, and that weird egg smell. Battery is good, tried jumping with a mobile jumper still no start. maybe another bad starter even though it was brand new? Why the weird egg smell. Also the relay was lighting up like fireworks with every on/off of the key. BUt bypassing the relay would rule that out right?

Any Ideas?

Will try tomorrow to start testing voltage as the car was at work and it's now 11:56pm and been at this since about 8:30pm.

Dirty, corroded, loose terminals will do that every time. Good thing it was something simple....and cheap.

Yikes! A lot of work for a simple fix. Anyhow, I'm glad you found it - and updated us on what cured it.
