[IMG]so i dropped my ca18det block off at a local shop to have new bearings installed, new rings, have the cylinders honed, and have the entire thing balanced.that was a month ago.i talked to them last week, and they said they had begun balancing it and that intially it was 14 grams off.today i talk to them and the guy tells me "this balancing job is wearing my dad out"..."we are very surprised you didnt have major vibration before"(well i spun the bearing a couple months ago, but it was due to lack of oil)..."we dont let any motor out the door until its within 5 grams".the only thing i could think of was that maybe my trigger wheel

pressed onto the crank pulley threw off the weight alot??? idk much about balancing but WTF is takin soooo long?? sink

what parts did you give them to balance?

entire rotating assembly, with rods and pistons or without?

whole thing. oem rods/pistons, new bearings, and oem flywheel. i didnt order the lightweight flywheel off here bc they said they were almost done like two weeks ago...

do you know if they are weight "matching" the rods pistons seperatley?

because I know when inline 4 cylinders are balanced, they dont need rods and pistons bolted to the crank to be balanced. Where as on an 8 cylinder they use "bob weights" to mimick the weights of the pistons rods during balancing.

ask them where it was 14 grams out?? OEM rods/pistons are usually perfectly weighted....I have seen Eagle rods 3 grams out from one n' other however. A KA's rotating assembly I recently balanced was pretty much on the money, would have been fine without it, but better safe than sorry. By the way the son was talking to you, I bet they are lubing you up with moly lube for a naaice billing. What did they quote you for the balance?

80 bux for balance. 20 for hone. 60 to turn crank. verrrry cheeeeap prices. i checked around with a few differnt places b4 droppin it off with them. and they told me they wont charge me more than what they quote me originally, no matter how long it takes

dang those are some pretty damn good prices.

remember to double check clearances once you get it back, unless you are getting back an assembled short block.
