Me neither. I would like more aftermarket stuff for our coupes though.

Ever see a so-called 'smart' car in an accident involving a transport? You don't want to...

I think they're really smart in the city. But once they get out into the open road, not so much. Not to say that you'd live through the same wreck in the Altima, but you should have more of a fighting chance at lower highway speed collisions.

I have to disagree, those cars are built like tanks with full rollcage in them. I've seen them on fifthgear get smashed with head on colission and survive impact. the doors even opened normally with no deformation. that car is a really safe car.

Correct! The days of having to drive a tank (boat)big car for safety are over, saftey tech has gone a long way....They smashed the smart car into a cement barrier at full speed and it did better then 90% of the cars out there!

Someone tested where they ran it at 70mph into a concrete barrier. The shell survived but the G's on impact would have killed the driver regardless.

Still, nice engineering...

There's a Smart dealership near the Nissan dealership in Devon, PA. I've actually seen a few of them around in the suburbs.

I'm considering asking for a test drive the next time I have to take the coupe in for service since it's almost right next door

I can not stand the look of these cars. I see one every now and then around the office and randomly on the road. But I would be willing to deal with the looks if it had a hayabusa engine. =D

It could most likely be more expensive than your 2.5

Really roomy, good quality, mercedes after all

Mini cooper on the other hand ... love that one

The Mini was my other consideration (instead of the Coupe) when I was looking for a new car. I absolutely love their design and their handling...but they're just a bit too overpriced for such an underpowered and heavy car. That, and Nissan offered me 2.9% whereas Mini was up in the area of 8.9%...

The new (2007+) Smart Cars just aren't worth it IMHO...at least not the gas powered versions. The original diesels were fantastic for city only driving...too bad the new diesel engines didn't meet N. America's "stringent emissions regulations"...

How much do you think the hayabusa conversion would cost. I would be willing to spend around 15-18k total for it.

I could get a used smart for like 8k right?

A smart car is like a motorcycle with a roof. You get hit on it, your dead.

Wow, I watched some stuff on youtube and it is surprisingly resilient. But it basically has to be that way since there is very little crumple zone to absorb impact - I'd still rather have 3 feet of engine bay that takes the hit (and doesn't end up in my lap) on the highway. If I lived in a big city, I wouldn't think twice about buying one.
