I believe if I remember correctly you would initially line it up with the dot on the right, so when you insert the CAS it will self adjust to the second marking. The S14 and Heavy throttle both have real good pics and description on how to do it.

all of this is set on compression stroke (obviously)( - X - - - - ) x= tdc, set on the "needle" for mechanical timing. ( - - - - X - ) x= 15* before tdc, mark with paint or chalk for ignition timing

the best way to set the crankshaft timing to the camshaft, is with the colored links on the chain. then you insert the CAS and 240life is correct when installing the CAS........ on the CAS "shaft" line the "dashed mark" up with the "circle" on the right, then when you insert it into the exh cam gear splines it will move to the left "circle". if its inserted dead nuts your bolt holes will be right in the middle of the slots on the CAS. of course all of this is outlined in the fsm, should you run into any snags. good luck.

The likelihood of getting the colored links to match up on the cams is slim to none. Just set the crank to TDC, and if your cam gears have their mating marks pointing correctly (10 o'clock intake/12-1 o'clock exhaust), you're good to go.

well i took a spark plug out and put a long screw driver in the hole so it rested on top of the piston then i moved the crank till the piston was at TDC on the compression stroke, then i matched up the CAS dots and put it in, then the car started...HOORAY ^_^, it doesn't backfire at high rpms so far but it gurgles if i take my foot off the gas and dont take it out of gear, it gurgles like a mother FU&$^R, but its all good i take it out of gear when i slow down and coast in anyways, i dotn really like to downshift either, im guessing that might have to do with those forged 9:1 pistons i have in there maybe ?
