so about a week and a half ago i was driving down the freeway going about 75, wasnt accelerating or anything and then all of a sudden 3 out of 4 of my my back driver side wheel studs just straight snapped off, big tow later, i bought 4 new wheel studs and 3 new lug nuts later i was driving again, and then a few days later i started to hear a scrape coming from back there thought it was just the dust cover hitting something, couldnt get tools to do anything about it till tuesday, and monday on the way to work, on same wheel 2 wheel studs snapped and the other 2 lug nuts came off and the wheel came off and the rotor fell down onto the rim and tore the entire inside up, so i now have to get new wheel studs new lug nuts, new rims and possibly a new rotor, can anyone explain to me why this could have happened, before you ask, i put the studs in correctly even had someone double check my work, and torqued all the nuts down to the 85 ft/lbs.

sounds like the rim then a friend of mine put a set on his coupe with the wrong size center bore so when he took off he snaped all 5 studs clean off
when the center bore is wrong the pressure goes to the studs witch arnt meant handle that kinda weight/force

What brand of wheels studs are you using as replacements? I had two studs work loose in one front hub, I bought new OEM studs from the dealership and noticed that the knurl (the part that "bites" onto the hole in the hub) was much longer (the full length of the hub depth) than the ones that had come loose. My guess is someone installed ones from the parts store at some time in the past, but their knurl was only about 75% of the hub depth, so they weren't biting onto as much metal. It might be the center bore issue V Kush mentioned and it's just that the OEM studs handled the pressure longer, but the parts store ones you keep using as replacements aren't as strong and that's why the keep snapping. If you are using OEM studs, then I don't know what it could be without inspecting the car.

i cant remember the brand, but it was the best ones that autozone had, and they looked 100% identical to my old one

Is the hub damaged where the knurled part engages?

i had that happen to me a few years back and found that the lug nuts were the wrong design and not matching the rim, if that makes sense. i kept finding the lugs loose. for a while i thought someone in my neighboor hood was doing it.

that actually makes a lot of sense cuz the ones that were on it previously were slightly extended, but the new one i got werent, so i just got new ones that are like my old ones, and hopefully this time it works

Are you retorqueing the lug nuts after driving? After you first put them on, you need to drive it, then retorque them.

Wrong lug nuts, damaged hub, and wrong wheel hub bore. I'm betting on 2 of 3. :)

Eliminate each one of those, and replace your hubs. BOTH of them.
