I dont understand what is going with my tires. I have eaten thru 2 sets of decent Goodyears om my 2000 Maxima and I cant get any good answers. I have not rotated due to the fact that the tires r eaten up pretty quickly, I have a mech. that says it is the tie rods and one who says tie rods will not eat tires this quckly.I have replaced the struts with Tokikos and I am frustrated and am needing advice. My mech. said that when you replace the inner tie rods that the rack will break, any truth to this?

take the car to someone who knows what they are talking about [rack breaking] and have them check the ball joints and bushings.

how hard do you drive?unusual wear patterns?alignment?

My wife drives the car and the tires are very unusual. The middle is raised up and the inside and outside of both fronts and left rear are just about gone, right rear is ok. Car has 170K on it. Never wrecked, well not bad.

what pressure are you setting the tires to?

consider changing the front control arms. they come with new bushings and ball joints. do the sway bar ends and bushings while your at it.

Great question, as the wear you're describing can result from under-inflating your tires.

It could be your tie rods if your wheel is wobbeling around it will cause uneven wear and could cause the short lifespan you're describing the best way to tell is to jack the car up and see if there is any play in the wheel just try and rock the wheel in and out if it moves you need new tie rods or maybe bearings if it's stiff with no play then you are probably underinflating them. The best way to get accurate presure is to do it in the morning before you start driving and the sun heats them up it should be at least 32psi if you do it after driving or after they heat up it should go up about 2psi so it should be reading 34psi.

I am running 32-35 psi all the time. I have not jacked the car up to check for loosness. I talked to a guy around Nahville and he said the guy who said the rack breaks is full of ****. I am going to take the car to him in a couple of weeks and see what he can find out. I will keep posted. This all started when my wife ran off the road 2 years ago and damaged the left front wheel, I had a shop here check the front and they said it was ok but obviously not. Thanks 4 all the great help.

It could be the alignment that would definatly cause excesive wear on the tires. Take it for a drive and see if it pulls to either side insted of driving straight. If so you just need an alignment. Also the steering wheel should be straight not turned slightly to one side.

I have had it to three different places to have the alighnment checked and they all say it is fine. This guy in town is a Nissan suspension specialist and I hope he can figure it out. I have another guestion about my rear brakes. Everytime I hit the brakes at slow speeds the left brake sounds like it is dragging, is this a caliper sticking or something else? Muchos gracias.

toe and camber is the angle that wear out the most on tires.make sure, nothing is loose or bend
