Anyone know what happened to him?! I miss reading his very knowledgeable posts and his sweet build thread. Just realized he hasn't been around for a while.

Last time I heard he was opening up a new shop, and dealing with some Identity theft issues.

Like Zee said, he's dealing with his new shop and his identity was stolen, so he's a little wary of computers at the moment, but he's fine. I spoke to him a few days after Thanksgiving, and again last week. As soon as his bank finishes with all their investigations and whatever, I'm sure we'll start hearing from him again. I'll let him know you guys are worried about him.

Hey guys. I am around, and as AJ said, I am really paranoid of the e-world right now. As AJ said, I was hit with ID theft and someone/some group planted a nice little gift called a keylogger into my systems. Hacked is one thing, but to be cleaned out is another. Make a long story short, I got thieved hard and have been having to deal with red tape to get my money back. Basically, I am having to prove there is no collusion between me and these unscrupulous people who had a good time with my money. This all happened a week after I officially opened my own garage. I had tools on order and other must have stuff to do the work I do. I had to cancel tool and equipment orders because I had no way to pay for any of it. Thanks to Allah, I am getting regular business coming in every day and am making my way back to a sense of normal.

Word of advice- don't use IE, minimize info about yourself, never save passwords or select "remember me" options, always use a strong spyware/malware/anti-virus package, do scans weekly (thorough system scans), delete cookies and clean out your cache register, and never ever open mail from someone you don't know. How i got hit, I don'y know, but it started happening when my postmaster e-mail addresses were getting jacked and the horrific amount of spam notices I was getting, then they started monkeying with my web sites and then when they got into my address book and started creating hell with people who are family and friends and the grand finale- stealing my money (a lot of money) and even calling my bank and posing as me and writing a lot of bad checks (I have not written a check in ages). Thanks to Allah, NOBODY BOUGHT ANYTHING for the container thing.

As for my presence here, I came on just to say I am alive and will bounce back, but I don't trust anything with the internet anymore and am reverting back to the analog age in many ways in my life because it's too easy to ruin someone with digital. Apologize for just falling off the scope, but for now, I am not coming here or any other sites until I am confident again. Thanks and may Allah always be with you all.

Masalama...

that sucks man, im studying computer science exactly to prevent this kind of **** from happening to people, or at least to me.....

This couldve occurred when you or someone using your computer browsed to a site with expired or fake certificates and didn't know what was going on, decided to proceed and made transactions on that site....pretty much you couldve been a victim of a Man in the Middle attack or in layman's terms someone pulled the ol switcheroo on you....allow me to draw a diagram using icons here and keyboard characters....

Arrows indicate a request to service provider in this case amazon...MITM intercepts request...

(you) ----> (MITM) ----> (Intended service provider i.e. Amazon)

Arrows here indicate MITM sending you fake certificate, deceiving you and making u think your communicating with Amazon....

(you) <---- (MITM) <---- (Amazon)

don't mean to make a joke out of this but this couldve been a possibility on how you got attacked, wiki this type of attack if you need to know more, my diagram is kinda stupid....anyways.

Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your plight. Very good advice, should be common knowledge for our generation (the guys my age). We have an advantage growing up in the digital age. It's very important not to use IE. Take care and come back soon.

You want to know where yokota is?

Look at the drift truck thread he was posting in there. Also, the oddest thing happened in that thread. Greg got mad at Grant, I have never seen that before. I wonder what is wrong with ed, but to not stir things up I will just wait to see what happens.

damn that sucks man, i hate thieves.. over the summer i had to get another card # from my bank because dremel had a "glitch" in which they "lost my information" after i placed an order for a replacement part, and the day after there was all this fraudulent activity

makes me wanna clear out my computer now. and funny enough we were just talking about this kinda thing in my digital media class today (tracking cookies and ish).

glad you're okay and best of luck with those bastards

I don't know but you're dominating the 240 chat again...I'd take another SS but then I'd have to make a folder for all of them. AGH now look, you're sucking me into this!

/turns off computer so I can lay in bed for 3 hours before falling asleep
