So i'm driving home, cruising at about 85mph, and all of a sudden i lose all power from the engine! all electrical items continued to work fine. when i try to start the car it will turn over very vigorously but never catch. to my novice ears it sounds like the engine is not getting fuel. however, i honestly have no idea where to start searching for the cause of this problem. a little background info....car is a 98 Q, 134k, has been exibiting all of the symptoms a few other y33 owners have been experiencing latey (jerky idle, hesitation, bad fuel mileage, tcs & slip lights randomly on/off, no chk engine codes being triggered). otherwise, i have no known probs with the car. i use synthetic oil, occasionally bg44k, & QuikTrip premium fuel. help me out guys, i really don't wana throw any misguided money at this problem. thanks

On my 93, it was the crankshaft position sensor. Twice.

1997 Q41 and later use a different method of timing sensing than 90-96Q45.

Was it a real CAS faiult or a failure to clean corrsion and maintain connectors and sockets [AKA harness] feeding CAS?

Your car is ruined, it's essentially worthless now. You should probably just junk it-just so happens that I'm in Atlanta and I'll pay you $100 more than the junkyard does.Let me know,Andy

I'M A JERK!!! i felt the need to preface my post with that remark. well, i replaced my fuel pump to no avail. then i checked the fuel pump fuse, only to find that it was blown. i checked it initially (i thought), but i replaced the wrong one. OR...it blew during the pump replacement process (which is totally possible since it was my 1st pump swap). so here are my takeaways from this experience, #1, triple check fuses before replacing parts, #2, replace parts correctly! thanks for all the help/suggestions guys. see you at NOPI

unfortunately, no. still have "the skip". once i installed the fuel pump i ran a can of bg44k to make sure everything was clean and i still have the prob. we can definitely scratch fuel pump off the list of possible suspects...

Be careful to buy and use only new oem coils as we have tried aftermarket copies with dismal results.

We have seen a few Nissans come in with Napa [finally traced them back as being sold there and installed by another shop in another state] coils and codes, even non oem spark plugs react differently to as designed oems.

Good luck and happy swapping!

So - your actually suggesting the musical coils? .. It makes me feel daft inside doing it.. I'm going to get known good used OEM coil to play with

I love my q.. Love it so much I took out a seemingly BRAND new set of denso double platnim and replaced with OEM plugs..
